I need some advice on the best product to clean the headers on my 9SX. Dealer suggested blue job(?) and an old sock. I've also heard Mother's is good. Any other suggestions? What do you folks use? Thanks in advance! | ||

I took BadS1's advice and used some Eagle One. WOW! 20 minutes and the header was beautiful. Seems like it will stay that way for some time with no upkeep. Works great. Thanks BadS1..... | ||

Hands down Eagle One.I've tried and tried every cleaner polish known to man and it works the best with the least amount of effort and lasts the longest.I just did mine for the first time since Daytona and they really didn't need it that bad.Remember this though apply with paper towel and polish off with soft terry cloth. | ||

Mother's works really well also. You just need to use the Mother's Billet Polish. The Mother's Mag & Alluminum polish isn't as good. | ||

I concur that Eagle One is the way to go for the SS headers. I saw what it can do and it is VERY impressive, especially if you are in a distant locale missing your girl terribly and like polishing other folks' pipes but don't like spending a lot of time doing so. | ||

I use mothers mag and aluminum as well but the billet stuff is now on the to do list. Is eagle the stuff that comes with its own 'applicator ball'? | ||

Nothing and I mean nothing works like Eagle One.Blake saw 3 sets of pipes I did in Daytona this year.I had no more then 30 min. into all 3 put together.The end result.....  | ||

Kowpow- you're thinking of Eagle One "Never-Dull". It comes in a can as a big wad of cotton waste soaked in some kind of cleaner. It's probably OK for touching up already clean pipes, but it can't compare to Eagle One Mag & Aluminum polish (I've tried both). The Mag & Aluminum polish is paste/cream that you apply with your own rag. I found that polishing the pipes on my S3 really cut down on the heat radiated into my right leg. A shiny surface radiates less heat than a flat surface. (my pipes were REALLY funky when I got the bike). | ||

Locally (SC), I found that most auto parts stores carry Eagle One "Never-Dull", but I couldn't find anyone with the Mag & Aluminum polish. I finally ordered on-line from Eagle One. Price was $3.99, but they charge $5 for shipping & handling on orders under $25. http://www.eagleone.com | ||

You guys probably heard me say in the past use Paper towel to apply and rub it in good.Well I learned that from the owner of the company that produces the polish cleaner called Flitz which is also great stuff.See alot of people use a cloth to apply but what the cloth doesn't offer is something that has some abrasive value to it.When he told me this and I tryed it.....it cut my work in half or more.Then I remove it and polish it off with soft terry cloth. | ||

What brand of paper towel? What size? What thickness? From what trees of which forrest are these towels made? C'mon man, we need details! Just kidding.  Thanks for the tip. Any advice that makes a job (like polishing headers) easier & quicker is much appeciated. 12bolt and the rest.Your pipes maybe pretty blued some of yours anyways.You guys might have to apply more the once to get th desired look your after but you will get there.After you do it though you'll be surprised on how long the pipes stay clean and shiney. | ||

My pipes were so cruddy I had to sand first with 320, then 400, then 600 grit, then I polished with Eagle One and they were spotless. Probably the cheaper the paper towel the better, since they're "scratchier". | ||

By some strange coincidence I just acquired a jar of Mother's billet polish. I tried it out using BadS1's paper towel method and wow! it works great. An hour earlier I ordered a jar of Eagle One to satisfy my curiosity. I had to go online as well because I can't find it out here. I can find Never Dull & Eagle One Never Dull (same stuff?) but not the mag & wheel polish. All I can say is if it works better than this Mother's Billet polish I'll be highly impressed. I usually like the blued look of headers but my 12S is so pretty & treats me so good that I feel a need to keep her in show room condition. Gotta love the irony though. I wonder if I would have run into the guy with the Mother's polish if I hadn't had ordered the Eagle One?  | ||

Thanks for all of the input, guys! I couldn't find the Eagle One either, but Autozone had a few tubs of Mothers on the shelf and I used BadS1's method and my headers look better than they did the day I bought the bike. Thanks again everyone! | ||

These metal polishes work GREAT on the 'lip' of your 9 rims as well. | ||

Xbolt12 Flitz works great but it needs alittle more effort.I kinda can get all the Flitz products I want considering my Niece cuts and Styles the owner of the companys familys hair.It good but not as good as Eagle One on stainless. | ||

Yeah I've always had great results with Mother's aluminum polish...I don't see how it could be that much different than the Eagle One stuff. It's the same kind of creme/paste type stuff that you apply. I think the Mother's is a little easier to find as well...Just my .02 |
