I was thinking of trying that but Daves told me to drain it. I'm off to the war, more reports soon. JT |

There I go with HD wrenching/thinking. HD tanks have a tube across the bottom front edge to equalize both sides. Since Buells don't have this, you don't need to drain the tank. What was I thinking? |

Dana, The gas was off. At least the stuff that was supposed to come out of the tank. All together including working out two seized bolts that had to be babied out by moving the allen wrench (dremel modified allen wrench)from one side of the frame to the other, it took around three hours. I also changed the plugs and found out that I had 12R6's instead of 12R10's. I wonder how long they had been in there? Once I had it back together it started up instantly and sounded great. I haven't had it start up that fast in a long time. I wonder how long it had been decaying? Thanks to BadS1 and Bomber and everyone else for the help! JT |

Next is fixing the bag latch that came off in my hand a couple of weeks ago. Daves dropped off that part too and his way through town. I'll get to it tomorrow and the bag can still be opened with my Leatherman, every bueller should have one! Then I have to pull my shift lever and bend it back to a right angle. I went down in the grass a few weeks ago and bent it in a little. Nothing major but every now and then I miss a shift because of it and it's driving me up the wall. After that the scoot is back to 100%! JT |

It's kind of satisfying to learn how to fix this stuff yourself. I am a cheapskate so I like to leave the really hard stuff to the experts and do the little things myself. I have never understood why so many of these Harley types leave their bikes at the shop for a week to have the oil changed. Unless you are a complete klutz I would sure learn how to do this work. While I was in Phoenix last Fall I came out the morning I was leaving to find the left side of my motor all wet. At first I thought it was oil and then realized it was gas. It took me about 10 minutes to pull the tank, tighten up the fuel pump nut and reinstall everything. My riding buddy (Harley) couldn't believe I did it so fast. I just told him that I've torn into the bike so many times now that I am confident to work on most problems. |

Imp -- bend sllllllooooooowwwwwwly if ya don't wanna hear that lil "tink" noise whilst adjusting your shifter -- while the material is perfectly suited to the application (strong enough, light, inexpensive) it's not suitable for fast or large re-formations -- I have imperical evidence of this in my scrap bin, if anyone requires proof ;-} |

Thanks for the tip Bomb, I wonder what a new shifter would cost? It's the new style shifter with the short linkage. JT |
