I'm curious if anyone has changed their muffler only and what kind of results this may give me. I'm also still trying to decide which muffler to go with. I'm thinking of either race muffler or spec ops. thanks for any help and taking the time to read yet another exhaust thread. Dave |

Switching to the race can without installing the race ECM substantially reduces your low and mid-range grunt...But it sounds really good as you try to beat that Yugo off the line. |

Seriously, though. There are after-market exhaust kits that work well with the stock ECM. It's just that the race exhaust is designed to work with the race ECM. |

Thanks Bbstacker, I'm looking for more noise but not ear plug loud. I'm also concerned with not loosing power. how about the spec ops, anyone try that pipe without any other mods? |

If you don't want ear plug loud, stick with stock or the race pipe. The D&D is ear plug loud. |

If you want it just a little louder, pull the rubber snorkel out of the air scoop. That intake "honk" will let you know its running. |

The DND is not earplug loud... Well, probably only because I put about 3K miles on a Force pipe without them... Anyway... If you don't want to lose power ANYWHERE get a Drummer. Some pipes make a little more in the higher rev range and some (very few) make just a little more in the low range. I don't think that there are any other than the Drummer though, that seem to gain everywhere compared to stock. /EDIT - Oh, and PLEASE put the K&N filter in it... Drummer's the best all around pipe for me. Louder but not earplug worthy, great low and mid range and gives up nothing on top. The 9 needs the Race ECM & K&N. Talk to Kevin about the 12. M1 - I was messing around in the parking lot before work this morning pulling wheelies. If crawl my 9 along at 2000 rpm, level off & punch it I get a 6" wheelie (never touching the clutch). If I take it to 2500 & punch it I get maybe 18". Anything over that & I have to pay attention to what I'm doing. My point is that the Drummer really fills in that bottom end. TomZ saw me inadvertently pull one of these at bike night a couple of weeks ago. Slow speed wheelies aren't going to win anything on the track, but they sure are fun. |

Ive got a Drummer and love it bought from Bubba when he was at Tillys. To me not to loud but a friend who borrowed my bike on sunday to ride while I was working complained that is was loud. His bike was stock zx12 but he sold it to buy new house.I'm not in the habit of letting any one ride my baby but a good friend and he is a lot better rider than me.His only other complaint was not enough power.He loved the way the bike handled and is thinking of buying a 12 after he gets in his house. |

the best power I felt with the XB9s was with the Drummer and 12airbox only. The throttle response was great. But I added the Race ecm & filter cause i was afraid it would run lean. Its pretty good now ,but not as good as just the drummer/12airbox. |

I have to get mine to about 2700 to bring the front off the ground with NO clutch and NO fork compression. I'm at 5500' elevation though . It also has to bite well... Sometimes the tire spins... I'm sure that 2500 would be sufficient in Phoenix . It takes 3300RPM with the Force. It takes 3000 stock. . Next Tuesday is the day BTW . (Message edited by m1combat on June 22, 2005) |

M1 - My house is at 520' but most of my riding time is at 50 to 250'. I'm using no clutch and no compression. There might be a bit of body english from my dirt bike instincts but not much. I don't remember ever spinning the tire on our asphalt drive though. |

So after reading this it would seem that on my SX if I put a Drummer on it and a TFI to make sure I wasn't running lean it be in a sweet spot. So I don't need a Race ECM? I am thinking I'll ride this year with a stock bike & do mods to it next year. I am just now getting use to braking with my right foot. |

you have to get the rpms over 3k with the force pipe. this pipe has nothing below 3k but 3k to rev limiter happens really quick and it seems to pull harder up through the gears. |

M1 - If I get a chance tomorrow, I'm going to try a trials type wheelie. I mean to stand up just off of idle and pull up & back hard while you punch it (no clutch pop). It's no Gas Gas that's for sure! lol |

thanks for all the response, this board is one of my favorite things about owning a buell. just the fact that anyone read this thread shows how great this board is. I'd really like to go with the drummer but i need to work on my better half before I spend any more moneyI will post again when I finally make a purchase. |

Xbdave - What's her email address? lol I'll convince her! M1 - The damned thing will do a trials type wheelie. No kidding. Idling along just fast enough to keep my balance, punch it & pull up hard and the thing comes up a foot & a half. lol - I gotta practice it some more. |

For an otherwise stock 12, it sounds like the Drummer is a winner. Good performance, better sound, though not obnoxious. What kind of a price tag are we talking about and where should I start looking for a vendor for one? one more question about the drummer...jacking, do you have to remove the muffler first or does it have or retain the stock jack points? Ponytail - Last I heard the Drummer was $400 with the exchange of a stock pipe and $500 without it. Kevin can correct me if I am wrong.
