Went and saw Priest last night in Jones Beach - Great show. After 30 years they can still rock. I must be getting old though; it was tough to get up after 3 hrs sleep to teach the MSF class today.

Did you see Queensryche? Did one of the guitar players play a black guitar with a Buell decal on it?

I did not notice. 1 original, Michael Wilton, and a newer member, Michael ???. They did a few guitar switches, but did not recall a Buell decal. They were good as well.

Mike Stone is his name. He has a custom black guitar that Erik made for him. He just got it a couple of days ago, and I wondered if he had played it. It didn't have a Buell decal on it when it left, but Mike said he would probably put one on. He rides an S2 Thunderbolt, has it in the back of the tour truck!

I have Live Crime on DVD... I went and saw them do the recent performance at the house of Blues in Chicago. It was pretty cool, but I was a little bummed that Chris Degarmo (spelling?)wasn't there. At one point in my life I could play the entire album on guitar. Now I settle for Eyes of a stranger, the mission, and a slower version of The Needle lies...

I also saw them on the Promis land tour with Type O Negative. That was a cool show too.

I seen that show here at Blossom Music Center on May 30th. Judas Priest was the very first concert I went to back in 1983. They still rock 22 years later... although I don't think Rob Halford hit the high notes like he used to. Good show nuntheless.

I'll be seeing them on Sunday.. I'll look for the decal..

Soooo.. What was the show like? Come on.. is it really old fashioned. Stand and play.. or is it flash, bang and bombast like their later tours? Give buddy.. OK, I'm stupid, I'll see if probably before any comments get posted..

It should be a great show. The Queensryche part of the show is an hour of hard rock. Very different from Mindcrime, but perfect for with Priest. And loud. Oh yeah.

Watch for the Buell guitar; if you know guitar designs it kinda looks like a Les Paul bred with a Jazzmaster. Kinda big, offset body, but single cutaway. Two humbuckers. Satin black.

Blublak -
Queensryche - put on a good show compared to the last time (was quite dead) I seen them. Not too much as far as stage show though. They did play about an hour or so.

Judas Priest - Was a pretty good show although the big screens they planned on using didn't work, they were completely green until they shut them off. As for flash, bang, boom. There was none. All lights... I was bummed since the last time I seen them there was explosions out the yin yang (Defenders of the Faith tour). Still a good show considering it was on a Monday night and it ended about 11:30. I'm sure the stage show depends on location along with night of show as with most bands.

Anony,

Please don't just tell us that Erik made a new guitar. We gotta know, how is it "different in every sense"? : )

I'm trying my hardest to come up with some witty "unsprung weight" or similar comment, but it ain't comin' to me. So please, y'all fill in the blank on that.

Unspring weight you ask? That's obvious. With the perfect balance of the Floyd Rose Tremelo system high speed finger taping can be accomplished without any lost sound amplitude. And in Rock, it's all about the amplitude. There is also a valve on the cable jack that offers an extr 15db boost when playing powerchords...

The guitar is "Different in Every Sense" AND MORE.

When you go to the concert, make certain you wear your BUELL shirt.

Yeah....we're a cult...so what?

: )

SUNDAY 19 JUNE - NISSAN PAVILION

OK, here goes.. A pocket review of the show..

Got there early, there was no crowd yet and got a really good parking space. Hung out for a twenty minutes with the wife before going in. (once your in, you can't come back out)..

Small local band playing on the "Subway 'B' Stage" Adlyn or something like that was the name.

Wandered into the venue to check out the seats. Section 101, Row A - Almost in front of the sign language translators. The wife likes the seats, (of course they are too small) ..

Mike & Mike walk onto the stage.. 15 minutes early and start the show! This was great, because it let them play a longer show and Queensryche was rockin'! Geoffs' voice was in great shape, and the band was as tight as it had ever been. Saw the custom black guitar, Mike 'Mohawk' Stone playing it. at first I thought it was a Les Paul, but then I realized it had the single cut out and yep, that was it.. If there was as sticker on it, I couldn't make it out, but he used it for a few songs. During 'Empires' he brought out a silver 'V' that looked really custom.. It had a great reflective blue oval 'BUELL' decal on the upper body at the wing. Tate even asked who in the audience rode, and mentioned thinking up song ideas while out riding.. Oh, and they have a sequel to 'MindCrime' coming out.. Gonna have to look for that one. The real 'Seattle Sound' did a completely hard rockin' set, none of the ballad like tunes they are also known for (too bad, would have liked to hear Silent Lucidity) since the started early, their show lasted over an hour.. Gotta love a band that starts early so they can play longer, as opposed to the traditional start em late types.

During the break, we looked for anyone we may know... No such luck, Jose was probably on the other side of the venue from us. After a few minutes and a $4 bottle of water, we headed back into the pavilion. Got to my seat just as the lights went down on the Priest Stage....

GOOD LORD THEY WERE LOUD!! I haven't heard a show (live) that loud in years.. (takes us older rocker types back a bit ya know?) .. Anyway, Halford was in good form, although he seemed very stiff and moved slowly for just about the whole show. He also seems to spend most of his singing now hunched over.. Go figure? Anyway, The rest of the band seemed to be in good form as well, the songs were crisp and we performed, although a couple of times, it seemed like they were either out of sync or someone was out of tune. Rob's voice, seems to be going higher, although he's not hitting quite the stratospheric notes he used to, he still packs a hell of a vocal wallop. KK and Glen seemed to really be having fun, and even goofed around a little with the songs. All in all, it was a great performance from one of the quintessential Heavy Metal bands. Now, there was this drunk couple, maybe 20? behind us, and a couple of times, he had to be warned about thrashing into my wife. I was about to say something when Robin spoke to him. I figured, one.. accident, two.. getting annoying, three.. to drunk to give a damn.. If there was a fourth.. it would be the last. She on the other hand starting flashing, first the folks behind her, then the stage, then.. well.. I think she lifted her top at least 10 times.. that I caught.. probably more.. (side note, all those piercings in tender spots probably wont' age very well.. But what can I say, 'twinkle twinkle lil' nip?') Priest pounded it's way through the set, they had a primo light show for Nissan, smoke machines and a couple of simple props. The now traditional closing spree was used, Living after midnight, Hell bent for leather and of course, You got another thing comin'. Back to Rob, it almost looked like he was having trouble moving, slow and deliberate movements about the stage, I'm wondering if he's got some sort of injury, since he used to be much more animated on stage. Yes, I know he's put on some weight, so what? Who hasnt'? It wasn't until the last few songs that he started to look like he was 'warmed up' or whatever, he steps becoming lighter (even in those slightly platformed boots) and his actions more the way those of us that had seen them years ago remember him. Ok, enough of that stuff, need I remind you guys that this was.. A GREAT SHOW! ..

Damn, my ears are still ringin'.. I'll bet Jose had his earplugs.. Somewhere along the way, I didn't bother and now, (hindsight being what it is) I wish I had.. Anyway, before the band was done waving goodbyes, we headed out.. since we had parked well (what they call 'Premier' parking, $20 but the wife wanted it) we were out of there within five minutes.. Direct route out to the highway.

Phew.. OK, so.. when do we get something set up for us to go riding with Queensryche

So, has Erik built many guitars? I've built 3 solid body electrics myself. Hope to find time to build a bass one of these days.

One of the 3 possibles.

>>>>So, has Erik built many guitars?

This may bear a special answer...soon. It's more than a "yes/no" answer.

Peter,

You got there before I did, I rode in parked where the bikes usually park by the handicap area and waited outside while I ate my Chipotle burrito hoping to see you but you were already inside. Queensryche started playing before I found my seat. They put on a good show.

Next time we should try to hook up with Mike to show him some of our local roads if he's got the time/up to it.

I was in section 303, yes I had my earplugs! I used them for the whole show except for the JP encore.

I agree Rob Halford looked odd hunched over so much, at first I thought he was looking at a screen on the stage to remember the lyrics but his eyes were closed the whole time, I think it takes more effort for him to sing the way he does now than it used to.

This was actually the first time I had ever seen either band live. They never played in Puerto Rico while I lived there.

Ozzfest is next, Peter? Iron FREAKING Maiden.....

I have the box set with every cd. Also each cd has bonus tracks. It is quite a package for the true fan. The only CD not in the package was Tribe which I also have anyway.

Cool to see Queensryche fans here! Hope those of you who've seen them like the new guitar that Stone is playing. You'll get to hear the story on it one day soon, but as a teaser, it really is a unique design that has Buell attributes in a guitar. Not mass centralized, but designed to fit and feel like one with you, and with lots of low end growl! It turned out well!

Maybe when I get the RS tank fixed I can get the Rage for Order logo painted on (ought to look good on a red tank), or just the standard logo.
