Well, I have read many of the posts on airbox mods and removing the snorkel, I had to try it! Snorkel came out no problem. Took the drill to the airbox. Then gave it a trial run. Ran steady at 3200 for about 10-12 minutes. Then turned it on. For one thing, the noise sucked! Kind of drowns out that sweet Jardine rip. Also, felt very sluggish. Definetly no gain at all in power. So I decided to duct tape the airbox and leave the snorkel out. Noise gone, and the power. Me likey!!! Seems to really pull with the snorkel out. Does this make since at all? I have the XB9S with a Jardine slip on, race ECM, and race filter. Was I getting too much air by gutting the box? | ||

I had gutted a box and had the sluggish response, then about a year later must have forgot about the sluggishness as I purchased an open air box conversion kit and had the issues. I am thinking the guys that are cutting their airboxes and putting on these open air box kits must also run a TFI or something that they can play with the fuel mixture because my bike was down on response in low and mid-range. I have the race ecm, race filter and race can. When I first cut my box I taped it up also, then invested in a 12 airbox and that did have an improvement on the bikes performance. | ||

Another vote for the 12 lid!!! Really seems to smooth it out. |
