Well, I began my 10K service today. I did the oil and trans. fluid change with filter, primary chain tension check, and spark plugs (using pro plugs). Hardest part was the plugs. Man, talk about a tight space. Tomorrow I'll work on the rest except the forks. Waiting on my spring compression tool to do those. | ||

i dont want to steal this thread but i have to ask. what are you guys paying for a 10k service. i mtaking mine in next week to get it done and they said it would be $625.60 pending any major issues is this a fair price or am i getting riped off? | ||

That's a lot... I can't remember specifically, but I think my dealer charges about $350 for the 10K. | ||

2.5 hours of labor just for the shocks at 68 dollars an hour, plus the parts and labor for the other junk. the F.U.C.K>N labor adds up. fast | ||

I called Chandler HD/Buell here in Arizona a few minutes ago and asked for a quote ...... took them about 20 minutes to get me the answer ...... told me about $800.00! He read me everything they do. Sounded pretty intense but I wouldn't pay it. I asked them if they re-painted the bike for that price. Glad I don't own one. If I recall, he said something like 9 or 10 hours. I mentioned to him I had a huge spread on quotes too (from here of course but he didn't know that). From a low of $400ish to $600ish, then he said $800.00. That's simply freaking stupid ...... only 10K on a bike and I'd have to dump $800.00 and probably need tires at the same time. Sure would be rude if you needed to adjust the valves like you'd do on a duc. Wonder what a 10k on one of those is. -SD:  (Message edited by smokedaddy on June 17, 2005) | ||

a 10K at my dealer runs about $750... i was told the high price was because the fork work is a time consuming pain in the arse. | ||

I was incorrect... $631.25 over in Mayer AZ. I don't think that's TOO bad... A duck needs that twice by 12K miles right? And then another at 18K? | ||

I will definitely take mine in for the 10K service despite the $600+ price. If it takes a tech 2 & 1/2 hrs to do the forks, it would take me 2 & 1/2 days. I could do it but I'd rather be riding than wrenching. Wrenching slowly, constantly running to the manual, getting frustrated. No thankyou. I'll stick with the simpler stuff that I'm confident to do. My hat's off to all of you who are skilled enough to do this stuff quickly. I hate you because I'm green with envy.  Seriously, I admire & covet your skills & knowledge. I can attain the knowledge, but the skill takes a long while to gain. | ||

Cataract2, Who did you get your fork compression tools from? Are you replacing the fork seals? I have that choice to make... Take the forks off and take them in or get the tools and do it myself. Shawn | ||

i just called another dealership to see if it would be any cheaper, yeah right. Ukes HD/Buell in Kenosha, WI, where i usually take mine, wants the $625.60 so i thought i would call Hals HD/Buell in New Berlin, WI they gave me two prices one for $799 the "delux" and the standard for around $599. whats the difference between the two i asked, he said the delux they go over it better and give your bike a wash. i wish i knew how to do the big work on my bike myself | ||

it really is a great deal of time, effort and parts -- not a bad proce, all things considered the work isn't really all that difficult, and can be done by a reasonably talented home wrench -- any mistakes, though, and your warrenty goes poof (as it should) you're paying for the time, parts, training the wrench as (though, at these prices, the tech had better be good) and piece of mind, if you're a beginner wrench spinner other brands priced similarly -- checked out prices for major work on your car lately? | ||

In Cruiser mag, they do a rundown on factory specc'd service. They compared a Sportster to 3 jap cruisers. The Sportster was quite a bit higher.  | ||

So for $599.00 you get the average just ok standard service, but for $799.00 the tech (the same tech we might assume) rolls up his sleeves and does a really good job? Ok, trying not to loose my cool. What this reminds me of is this, you go to a hooker and for $50.00 she screws you (take note of metaphor) and for $75.00 she screws you really good, she might even fake an orgasm! That dealer is a thief and I would never go there and you should probably report them to Buell or the BBB or someone. A service for x number of hours at $ per hour is the same, it does not get 'done better'. That is just crap. Yeah the Duc calls for a valve clearance check at 6000 miles, if they are in spec then the cost is less, if they do have to be adjusted then, yeah is is about $600. My pal has a Monster so he went thru that. | ||

Those prices are outragous, I really feel for you guys. I am kinda glad I don't have a warranty on mine to worry about. Everything I do is my own responsibility and if something major goes wrong I than have an excuse to tear it all down and rebuild it. Don't get me wrong buying new and having a warranty is great and smart. I did not buy my girl new and new what I was getting when I got her. Luckily I have had no major problems. | ||

I believe our price for a 10K is $425 using the Screamin' Eagle Syn3 oil. Forks are a bit involved, but not THAT involved. | ||

Shawn Fork seals on mine are ok. So, just got to change the fork oil. I'm getting my compression tool from Gainesville HD. They'll ship it to me soon as they get it. Cost was about $129. I know, pricey, but since I like to do my own work it will have lot's of uses. Question. I changed my trans fluid over to Mobil 1 15/50 and tightened the primary chain to about 9mm-9.5mm. Having a bit of trouble getting into neutral once tonight. Would a primary chain that's tight like that cause shifting problems or maybe the oil? I did have Mobil 1 Gear lube in there before. | ||

Well, as we say in NYC, "not for nothing" but I just had mine done with a "10,000 mile and LOTS more" by Phil Evon at Liberty HD/Buell in Rahway, NJ. Results may vary from dealer to dealer but I had no problem writing the check and feeling good about it. Phil and the staff at Liberty went over the bike with a fine tooth comb. When he told me he checked every fastener, I knew he did. I told him "tires as needed" and got only a rear...good eyes. In addition, Phil found tiny things that weren't "wrong" but weren't perfect and got things "just so". Most impressive, on my personal list, was that when Phil had a question he didn''t try to BS anyone, he called promptly. There were folks from coast to coast involved in finding a part he didn't have in stock and needed the next day. When I picked the bike up, I had a couple adjustments I wanted...no problem, no bs, no wait...on the lift and done. The bike was subjected to two proof tests. First, I got on it, dialed it to about 80mph and rode from 7AM to 11:30PM. Second, it was absorbed into the bowels of Buell R&D for a day for a once over and they (other than me taking a bit of a butt chewing for certain things I had not done) got good marks. Bottom line.....value is in the eyes of the beholdinator. Paying 5C for a 10K could be either a rip-off or a bargain. Just depends. I got a bargain. Court | ||

The 10K service is expensive due to labor. Parts shouldn't be too expensive, depending on what needs replacing at that time. | ||

Markiemark, Hals washes EVERY bike they get in to service. Dunno what their "deluxe" package includes for sure. But i can find out if'n ya like. But if ya ever call there again for service, make sure you either talk with Jim Winters or kevin(don't remember his last name) in the service dept for quotes like that. Kevin was a Buell rider until recently. | ||

Let me say this, though on my recent trip to a dealer I am guilt on all counts. Your bike should NEVER need washing at a dealership. Taking a dirty motorcycle to be worked on is like going to a proctologist with a turd hanging out of your butt. Not my quote, but dead accurate. Court | ||

Harley Dealers have to offer the wash with a service, otherwise no one would come! Think about it, how much time does it take to clean a Harley vs an oil change? The oil change is just a bonus to the average customer... | ||

Personally, I get aggravated when I go to pick up my bike, and I have to wait for them to wash it before they can roll it out the door. Give it back to me dirty, just give it back to me NOW! my bikes are destined to become Rat Bikes  | ||

It can stay dirty, a bike is supposed to be ridden & a clean detailed bike is a sure sign of a bike that doesnt get ridden very often. | ||

When I took my S3T in for the swingarm recall and to get a set of Scorion Syncs on it, the bike was filthy. But it was mostly from the burnout they had me do on the old 207s. Hey, *THEY* made me do it, to get 50% off of the tires.  When I took the wife's blast in, it was also filthy, but was sub 30 degree temps, so no washing it here. In both cases, I did appologize for the filthy bikes. clean detailed bike is a sure sign of a bike that doesnt get ridden very often Mine is currently pretty clean and spiffy. But dyna, you know darn well, I ride my bike A LOT. It's been my ony source of transportation for about 3 months now. I'll take an hour every two weeks and sit down and clean 'er up, and about 2 hours once a month to polish the PM wheels. } | ||
