I will get a brand new xb this summer and I am wondering if it's better to wait after the break in to get the race kit installed or I can get it installed right at the dealer before I start the break in? | ||

Might as well get it installed when you buy- You might be able to negotiate the install for free as part of the sale. | ||

I agree, get it done at time of delivery. Doesn't hurt your break-in, and it's done to factory spec. | ||

I agree you should get it installed, and it won't hurt the break in at all, but on the second hand it might be better to have it stock for a little bit. You'll appreciate the race kit more. | ||

When I purchased my 04'xb12r this mar05'new for $7900.00 the guy who sold the bike asked if I wanted the race kit installed. Well his deal was 10% off the race kit and no install charges. I am kicking myself in the ••• for being stupid on that one. Could have saved some money. I just had the race kit installed at 994 miles and pro-plugs put in, a storz steering damper(which they f$%5-up) and the 1000 mile service done,syn3 oil added, and a dyno pull to tune everything in. I paid $582.00 . Here's the breakdown--- install race kit=2.0 hrs labor =$140.00,1K service=2.90 hrs. labor=$203.00, Replace spark plugs(pro-series)=1.5 hrs.labor=$105.00, install steering damper(storz) =1.0 hrs labor=$70.00, Dyno run=.64hrs. labor=$44.80. Shop supplies $20.00. For the Effin grand total of $582.80 So get the race kit from the onset but leave the syn 3 oil out till you pass the 1000 mile break-in period. I'll post a thread about the dealer service/treatment some other time until I get my steering damper issue rectified.The purchasing dealer was in Joliet, IL some 1.5 hrs. away and the maintenance was done at a closer dealer. Ease of convience sometimes is just not worth it. Good luck !!!!  | ||

what do you mean by "a dyno pull to tune everything" ??? what components on your bike are "TUNE-ABLE" what did they do adjust the pro-series spark plug gap for best peak horsepower? only possible tuning i can think of is the static ignition timing, which should have been checked any way at the 1000 mile service. | ||

Thx guys for your answers. But I have an other question, does the bike loose it's very low end torque with the race kit pipe? | ||

Yeah get it whenever. Got mine a 1000km into it but installed it myself and just had the TPS done. You have gotta be kidding at paying 1.5hrs labour for a plug change. At best it would take 15minutes if he couldn't find the wobbly socket. | ||

I had the bike dyno-ed to show the before and after. I highly doubt from being on this board for the past few months and reading it religiously that the dyno was used to tune anything in. I had a 98 GSXR-600 that was carburated and it was necessary at that time to use the dyno to get the best results. I know that with the fuel injection it is not necessary but wanted to have it done anyway as a selling point in the future for the bike. The labor for the plugs I cannot account for, however, after reading the board and recalling a few threads people have stated that it is a mother of a time to change them out. I am no mechanic and I am at the age where I'd pay to put the liability in the dealers hands instead of wrenching around and around till things are right taking time away from my kids who I hardly see. It's not to say that I'm happy with the cost of everything, but it's done and over and I'll be shopping around. Next time I will use another Buell dealer that I think is competent and fair where I won't get jacked like I somewhat did at this one. I will probably go to UKE's in Kenosha, WI. next time.  |
