Maybe I'm too anal rentetive but I am going to change the primary shoe for my 10K service. I figure if I'm in there it is easy to change it. Good idea or not? Worst case have a spare on hand. |

Gotta remove the primary case cover to do it. Best off to not worry about it until your adjustments on the chain stop to have any effect. |

I've got 15K on mine and it seems fine so far... I'll probably replace it fairly soon anyway. While I'm in there I may throw in a light weight clutch basket and crank sprocket. |

I've heard Hoban about lightweight billet clutch basket and sprocket for the xb's. They made them for their racebikes ... I wonder what a set would cost. Very interesting. |

My primary shoe was barely out of spec at 12,763 miles. It's about $24. I would change it at 10K as long as you have the primary cover off (which is required to inspect the chain shoe anyway). IMHO the extra 3000 miles of use is probably not worth the price of a second primary gasket and shifter shaft seal. |

A new primary shoe will decrease the service interval between chain adjustments. A new shoe will need constant adjustment until the chain beds into it. I say if your range of adjustment is still good, stick with the old shoe until it wears out. I think you'll be surprised how little wear is on your original shoe. |

I'm replacing the adjuster on my 99 S3 because there's a better updated version and I'm having to get into the case anyway. It's cheep to replace & the old style tuber ones tend to break a bit more. The old one has a lot of wear left on it at 15k & I'm guessing it would be good to at least 30k miles if I left it in. I don't see a reason to change the one on my XB at 10k. |

I will post a pic when I get it apart. Have a new adjuster just in case. Thanks Stone Mtn. Buell! Parts came today. DBird |
