A cheap and easy way to spend an afternoon. Fun, too. I cut off the fender from the undertail with a Dremel tool and installed universal flush-mount turn signals. The license plate bracket is a piece of 1/8" alumninum plate that I cut, bent, and molested with with various drilling implements. I tapped the holes for the license plate fasteners so I don't have to use nuts behind them (I'll use lots of Loctite!) Not shown is a backing plate inside the modified undertail. The wires for the new signals aren't exposed to the elements like the stock signal wires were. It really cleaned up the rear end for about $20. The new signals are have dual filaments so I can run them as running lights, too. Good or bad, I'd like to hear some comments. |

hmmmm... i just tore mine off and spent the rest of the afternoon playing cansta.... it would be cool to have indicators on my sled, though... |

i did something almost identical to that... except i used smaller blinkers (same shape, half the size) and mounted my license plate forward (right behind the oil reservoir) so i don't have that unsightly rectangle hanging there. it's amost as clean as the old S1. ...c |

Nice Job DJ I like it! I may gets me a plastic off of e-bay for the X1 and give that a try! Where did you get the turn indicators? |

Nice work, really looks good. But keep us posted on how long the aluminum holds up. Don't mean to be boring, but when I make another one.... I'll use stainless.

I built mine from stainless. Instead of bolting it from the underside, I mounted it behind the brake light assembly. Nice job on yours! |

I was worried about the aluminum work hardening, hence my crude efforts to lighten the bracket as much as possible. I also made sure to break the metal against the grain. The tail has such a high amplitude shake at idle it still might fling the plate off eventually. We'll see... |

I had a stainless bracket I bought from Storz. Two of them, actually. They broke. I went with carbon fiber. A few years with that and it's still holding strong. |

It was a blank slab I purchased through a local powersports dealer from Lockhart Phillips. They sell pre-formed sheets of the stuff. |
