We just powder coated my brother's '05 12R lower and triple tree. We did the upper too. Any tips or tricks on getting the fork back together and aligned correctly? Getting the upper back on isn't too tough, but we can't get it to line up correctly. Anyone know what the exact measurement is for where the lower triple tree should be? |

Can anyone help me out with this? I would really appreciate it if someone could just measure their triple trees on the fork. That would help out a lot. We did find that the upper part of the fork on my '03 9S and my buddy's '03 9R are longer than the the same part on the '05 12R by about .5". |

Awesome! Thanks a lot Odie. I really appreciate it. We were about to take a tape measure up to our local dealer and go measure one of the bikes on the floor Please be sure to let me know what points you were measuring from when you post back. |

Right out of the service manual......Install the lower fork clamp into the steering stem bore and install the upper fork clamp. Install steering stem capnut. Tighten but do not torque. WARNING! Carefully install the fork into the upper fork clamp. Forcing the fork into the upper fork clamp could move the stopper ring out of the groove which will not allow the correct clamp load causing a possible loss of control of the motorcycle which could result in death or serious injury. Install one front fork assembly into the lower fork clamp. Slide the stopper ring (if removed) over the top of the fork assembly and into groove. Install fork assembly into upper fork clamp. Tighten but do not torque lower fork clamp pinch fasteners. Repeat previous two steps on second fork assembly. Tighten steering stem capnut to 38-42 ft-lbs (52-57nm). Install steering stem pinch bolt applying Loctite 272 and tightening to 17-19 ft-lbs (23-26 nm). WARNING! Both forks should display the same number of alignment lines. Position both forks with the same number alignment lines visible and reflectors facing to the sides. Do not tighten. Use Loctite 272 on upper fork clamp fasteners and tighten to 17-19 ft-lbs. Use Loctite 272 on lower fork clamp fasteners and tighten to 13-15 ft-lbs (18-20Nm). Repeat torque sequence above (last 2 sentences) to verify proper clamp load. I have (on my '04 12S) 8 and 1/8th inches from the bottom of my upper triple tree to the top of my lower triple tree. I have 2 and almost a half alignment lines showing out of the top of my upper triple tree. Let me know if you need more....Odie |
