With the cost of upgrading exhaust, air and other mods the FI bikes require either a 200.00 race ECU or a 300.00 power commander. Plus 50.00 for TPS settings. So would it be cost effective to just put in a carb and aftermarket ignition? It might be the same cost up front to switch to a carb but in the long run I wouldn't have to worry about all the pesky problems and soon to be hard to find parts/service for a FI system. |

I'M NOT A BIG FAN OF FI.... CARBS NEVER LET ME DOWN.....EASIER TO FIX ON THE ROAD IF NEED BE...IF YOU MAKE ANY UP GRADES ON YOUR MACHINE, YOU CAN DIAL IT IN YOUR SELF...PLENTY OF AFTERMARKET OPTIONS. MY .02 |

Put a Power Commander or any other programmable unit behind FI and you'll wonder why you waited so long...well worth the time/$$/effort to set the FI up correctly. |

Yes it's worth keeping. I'm not a big fan of power commanders. The installation kit uses those crimp-on things that pierce your harness. I would suggest installing a slip-on exhaust and drive around in closed-loop mode to allow the ECU to figure out what's going on. Chances are, you will be happy with the results. Of the times that my FI has failed me, it was attibuted to bad sensors or a loose exhaust header. Another advantage of the FI is that if something does go wrong, you can use the trouble codes to figure out what's up. |

The race ecm fixes many ills on the FI tube framers. Most folks are very happy with this change along with intake and exhaust. Make sure to reset the TPS and you should be good to go. |

Hopped on my buddies ST1100 the other day..... Forgot about that silly choke thing that the antiques need to get going in the morning. Turning the key and going is a plus. Don't need to remember to choke or to "unchoke". Still need to figure out how to get the thing past 120, though............. |

Ryker77 I have both a carbed and fuel injected buell. The fuel bike especially the fuel injection has been nothing but problems. But to your question, both bikes received new air cleaner assemblies, screaming eagle ignition boxes and after market cans. The fuel bike responded the best. I preferred the Two Brothers can over the V&H SS2R. |

Well I bought an 2002 x1 with pcIII installed. The bike is fast once it gets past 2500rpms. But before that its a dog--- can't even let the clutch out at idle and take off smooth. dyno tune is 250.00!!!! Crazy. I posted another topic about how to connect/adapt to my laptop. So I can atempt to tune the bike myself. |

I just got back for Road America with my '02 S3T - 1200 miles total - and the bike ran flawlessly. Like Bluzm2 said, race module with proper set timing and TPS reset and you will be happy. I have owned several carbed Buells and the FI make more power and is considerably smoother than the carbed - when setup similarly - cams, pipe, air cleaner, etc. Keep the FI! Todd |
