I have a 99 X1 with a factory race kit on it right now (Race ECM, Race Header, Race Pipe, gutted airbox and K&N filter. The bike runs like a scalded dog now, but I'm considering going with tank accents and either a Forcewinder or CF race air cleaner, mainly because I prefer to be able to see the V twin unobstructed. Does anyone know what this would do for horsepower & torque? Will this increase or decrease what I've already got. I don't want to lose any power. Does the left hand side air scoop actually make a difference if you get rid of it? I'm also thinking of putting on a factory fan kit, since I have to ride in traffic in the summer. Can you still do this without the air scoop on it? Thanks all for the responses in advance. | ||

Forcewinder on my X1. Not dyno checked but I feel I obtained a slight increase in performance over stock set up. Also hace race ECM/WileyCo pipe. Frank   | ||

First, I have the American Sport Bike carbon "race" air cleaner... Looks good, looks like the sportster air cleaner, but better.... Running the race ecm and a D&D as well... I have pics of it on my X1... just need to be resized etc... can email them to you if you wanna see them... Chase | ||

I use a Forcewinder on my M2. I'm fairly happly with it and I don't feel like it hurt power in any way. The only reason I'd use a Forcewinder over a race filter is for clearance reasons. From a performance standpoint, I believe the race filter is the way to go, but it'll intrude on your knee if you're "cut high". | ||

American Sport Bike has a billet race filter that is slid forward to give you extra knee clearance.  With the 3" velocity stack added it works like a charm.....  | ||

Delta: I posted a pair of dyno charts in the KB http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=3842&post=403676#POST403676 1 box stock 1 force winder & super trap fills the gap in the middle nicely not had a problem with out the scoop I did what you are thinking about it looks cool, the XR2 kit has a nice hard line set up but you get spooge on the pipe where it drools out of the element I bought the XR not the XR2 the vent ells are aluminum and will leak and may break off in the head it happened to me get a banjo bolt kit from American Sport Bike or custom chrome ABOUT $50 I just put the IAT sensor under the "sock" on the inside, beware the CF on E-bay, i have the tank accents they are not well made, Be prepared to fiddle a bit on the trim for the tank the mount hole is over the hole in the gussett on the left side if you are would like PM me I will send you some pics of mine all the best Ol'Dog  (Message edited by oldog on June 01, 2005) | ||

My '00 X1 is set up with a Vance & Hines, race ECM and FI Forcewinder. Noticed it became crisper with the FW and a new (but nice) tapocketa- tapocketa intake noise as it idles. Comes nicely polished, which compliments my polished rocker covers, rims, tail piece and swingarm. Archived the bull testicle a/c cover and left scoop, and replaced with a set of the fiberglas tank trim pieces. Bike feels narrower (IS narrower!) without the stock plastic. Two Kevlar-clad thumbs up. | ||

Thanks all for the responses. It is appreciated. I've decided to ditch the airbox & scoop, but am currently torn between the Forcewinder and the CF aircleaner. Harley mechanic just told me not to waste money on the fan if I'm running full synthetic oil, so I've knixed the fan idea now also. You guys that put on the Forcewinder or CF aircleaner, have you gone with the catch can or the XB rocker covers. Any suggestions based on ease of install, price, etc. | ||

I have a Forcewinder. I am using the billet catch can from American Sport Bike. Nice piece but pricey. If I had to do it over now I'd go with the XB rocker covers. Frank | ||

XB covers...simple to install. I have an extra set I've been planning on getting rid of. Let me know if you're interested. | ||

Actually I just ran the dump into the center of the filter element (CF race cleaner) and have 500 miles on it this year with no more than a trace of oil mist inside. | ||

It's not a bad idea to install a catch can with the XB rocker covers - spooge is still spooge no matter where it comes from. If you decide to go with a CF racefilter, the XB rocker covers will make it easier fabricate the routing to a catch can. There's not much room behind the CF filter housing and you'd need banjo-bolts for clearance if you stayed with the stock PCV set-up. |
