Anon, You had 165 hp in 1983 - That's impressive. But without trying to take away anything from that... what's impressive to me is a tiny street bike with a 12 month warranty that makes 100 hp stock and 110 to 125 when using a pipe and filter combo. These things start with a push of a button and idle well and can be driven cross country and back with out engine rebuilds. Not even 650cc and 125hp...wearing a licence plate, and it's serviced at the local dealer. You have to admit that's pretty impressive. |

Ask Dave about the Appleton open house dyno drag My nephew kicked everyone's butt with his GSXR1000 with 159HP IIRC Just dont have a whole lot of faith in that rolling dyno truck. Its fun to play on but the numbers are hopelessly optomistic. Coolice..tell Jake I said Hi & definitely will be seeing him again for bike week 06. Im hanging out at home this week & just relaxing, havent had a break since way way back. Im finally all moved in & can just kick back & do nothing for the 1st time in about 3 months. |

If I can manage to wring 110 HP out of my Buell it'll be perfect. That's the plan, anyway. I've gone cross country a couple times on the Buell. Some minor issues...but nothing that can't be overcome. I'm considering building my next bike from scratch. A few friends told me I should just go out and buy an import that suits my needs. They think what I'm proposing is nuts. My reply..."It'd have no soul." |

Rick, I have been talking to Cycle-Rama to do just that. Cycle-Rama and myself hope for more than 110 HP out of my M2. |

Craigster: ...makes 100 hp stock and 110 to 125 when using a pipe and filter combo. You're gaining up to 25 HP from a full system and an air filter? You should be tuning race bikes! In the Cycle World (may 2005) Middleweight Shootout, they dyno'ed bikes stock and after being upgraded to Supersport spec for the Willow Springs International Raceway track. This included down 1 tooth countershaft sprocket, alternate exhaust, and an ECU. Here's some numbers: STOCK HORSEPOWER Honda CBR600RR: 102.7 @ 13,400 RPM Kawasaki 636: 111.6 @ 13,100 RPM Suzuki GSX-R600: 103.0 @ 13,100 RPM Triumph Daytona650: 103.9 @ 12,200 RPM Yamaha R: 108.0 @ 13,100 RPM not bad, now for modified horsepower Honda: 106.8 @ 13,500 Kawasaki: 115.7 @ 13,800 Suzuki: 104.4 @ 13,200 Triumph: 105.7 @ 13,500 Yamaha: 109.2 @ 13,100 JohnCR250:...the suzuki/kawasaki shop by me does the same mods(yosh slipon,PCIII) to the 600 and also uses the race head gasket and airfilter. That combo is good for about 115-116hp for the gxer and 124-126hp on the ninja 636. So basically you're gaining about...10 HP from an air filter? And not even using a pipe, just a slip-on? Slip-ons might gain 1 or 2 HP on a 600, depending on the brand and the bike. In conclusion, let's not talk these 600's up to much. You can't fool everyone by throwing up numbers that are about 10 Hp over realistic. This guy is feeding you stuff, these numbers aren't realistic with those mods. |

Burnmyheartdown, Never said 25 hp from pipe and filter. Johny quoted 125 from a zx636. I've seen 109.3 from a GSX-R. There's the 110 to 125 (you've got to read the whole post). Also, some folks only go by numbers in a magazine. I don't. I've got my own eddy current dyno about 15 feet from my desk. makes for good comparison to the magazine numbers. When I talk about a stock 600 starting at 101 and ending up at 109.3 with slip on and PCIII-USB it's because I've actually tested it. Some complete systems only add 1-2 hp. Some even LOSE hp. Some slip ons add more than you would believe. The only way you'll ever know is to test them. All I can guess is the guys at CW either chose the wrong pipe for the GSX-R600 or simply loaded an existing power commander map in their PCIII-USB and thought it was as good as it gets. I didn't read the article, but if I found 109, there are many tuners far better than I who could have found more. It takes about 8 hours to get a map really dialed in. How long did they say they spent tuning each bike? 2-4 hours is about as good as most will ever get, but if you want it making peak numbers, you need to check EVERYTHING. Not just the base map but do step and hold tests at every 250 rpm (not just every 500). More time added that many don't like to do. Check for cylinder to cylinder trim and make sure the snorkels feeding the airbox line up perfectly. Again more time. Fresh plugs and proper gap are important as well as properly tensioned chain. Tire pressure makes a difference. Sitting on the bike and standing flat footed with weight off the machine changes power losses as well. The dyno tester needs to do the exact same thing each time else the data is meaningless. My numbers are quite realistic, but you'll have to pay me for them. Otherwise you can easily go to the dealer with a dyno out back and a service guy who just took the Power Commander class and pay a lot less. They usually return the bike back to you alot quicker too. |

I've talked to those fine folks myself. I'm afraid that passing the 110-115 HP mark would be a combination that's a little too radical for my tastes. |

Parts are on order as we speak. If all goes well I will post the results in the K.V. We are keeping the stock bore so It could go much higher with more displacement, but that would bust the budget. |
