Was curious if anyone knew off hand what the nuts that secure the exhaust header to the engine are in size and pitch. They look like fine pitch 5/16 to me but when i acquired a number of said nuts they seemed to go on a half turn or so and catch. Normally I would just gleefully use a big driver and work them on but I have a great desire not to then have to replace the stud that the bolt mates too. So I was curious if in fact this was a metric fastener, that it was actually some other english size, or if I should just put some more elbow into it. | ||

I had the same thing happen. Ultimately, I decided that it was the corrosion thing on the stud, so I replaced the studs and used new SS nuts and washers. Worked very well and hopefully that will solve the problem on a go forward basis. | ||

My experience is that all the fasteners on the bike are standard size. Be careful, don't force it. | ||

i have and will (hopefully) never have my nuts on my header. it sounds like you're playing with fire. are you at least engaging in this behavior behind closed (garage) doors? |
