I been searching the net for weeks, but I cannot find for the life of me any reviews or first hand accounts of either of these two brands of helmets. Any one even know the difference between the two? I really dig the styling of both but since they are a pretty penny I am lothe to buy one without some more info. Does any bueller out there have any experince-tales-stories they want to share?? |

What model does your buddy have? How about the weight, and the road noise? |

I have a Simpson Outlaw and it's best feature is low wind noise and buffeting, and it fits my big dome well. Plus it looks cool in flat black. Ventilation is good, but the flat black gets hot on a sunny day. I wear ear plugs for the road noise, but it's fairly quiet without them. Been thinking of getting a German Helmet for riding the Road King with the Harley buddies, but don't like open face helmets. Simpson Outlaw German Helmet? |

Simpson make car helmets - that is until very recent years. In Europe (EEC) we all have to follow the Euro standards these days when it comes to wearing a helmet legally. Before EEC standards British law dictated we abide by the BSI kite mark which has approved the use of Simpson helmets on the race track but not for motorcycle road use. Simpson's original Bandit had the enviable reputation as the safest helmet in the world and it probably still is. Today Simpson make make a motorcycle specific Bandit and it is road legal in the UK. Another thing to look out for when buying Simpson is some come with fire proof lining at more cost. I've not worn a new Simpson so can't speak of them. I own a 1975 model drag racing lid with a letterbox style view and I love it but it is an ornament only. The lining has long since worn away and it's a massive fit for my head, but like I said it's an ornament and I bought it as such. I also own and use (but not recently) a late c1990's Simpson RX7. Like all Simpson's it is heavy but you get use to it. They buffet around in the wind making a tight but perfect fit essential. Sadly mine has settled down a lot over the years and now is a tad on the large side. This doesn't help Simpson's other problem I've encountered. At high speed, say over 80mph, they suffer from terrible lift from under the chin area which pushes the lid up in an upward and over the top of your head direction which requires one to constantly pull it down and yank on the strap to retighten. I also owned up until recently an early 2000 Bandit but I bought it used at a good price and it was too big. I passed it on to a friend. It wouldn't be fair to say this Bandit encountered the same problems as the RX7 but it did but like I said it was too big for my head. Still a heavy helmet and well made and you can tell. Would I buy another? I'm looking right now. Nothing is as good for Buell riding as an original white Bandit with black visor. Quality product despite the UK's stupid law that banned them for road use. Be aware the latest motorcycle Simpson Bandit has a larger visor opening and doesn't look quite as cool as the original. GERMAN COPIES The pic's posted are of a cheap and inferior helmet and I'd personally give them a wide berth. Another German manufacturer Craft make a cracking Simpson Bandit copy. It's very popular in the UK amongst the Streetfighter scene especially. They are of composite construction and can be had in carbon fibre too, though I'm not certain exactly what content of cf that means, and they are priced very reasonable over here between £150 and £200. I'm told they are lighter than Simpson's own offering and I'd wage they are from my holding\feel test. Everyone I've asked that owns them has been very happy with them. From memory they figured very well in recently published helmet tests in the British m\c press, but don't quote me. Check out Simpson's and Craft's websites. Rocket |

Hey thanks rocket those Craft helmets look to be quite nice. Ya I smelt a fish with these german helmets, they had next to nothing by ways of information on their lids. Although they seem to have a nice shape as well. What do you fancy more the RX6 Evolution or the RX7 Challenger at first I thought the Challenger but I think I am leaning towards the Evolution |

www.carbonfiberhelmets.com They have the German helmets DOT approved. And you can buy the spike for the top too. I bought a lid from them, it's pretty comfy, I usually use it on really hot days to keep cooler. OK, I thought they were DOT approved. Maybe not...... really can't tell now. They changed their site since I bought mine. Couldn' find the spike either. Sorry jd (Message edited by jerzydevil on May 27, 2005) |

It's a matter of taste really. In the UK the original Simpson Bandit in white with blue tinted visor reigns supreme as the Fighters choice. I believe a lot of the Simpson's status\image came from the drag race scene and spilled onto the street. That and the fact that they were reassuringly expensive 20 years ago! Rocket |
