As you all probably know. I'm going to the gap in Aug. Well, we've renting lodging at Iron Horse and I'm going with the Bunk house. Was wondering if anyone has ever stayed there or can give me a heads up about it. I've heard it's a nice place, my parents stayed at it last year, but I'm starting to get the feeling it's a cruiser place mostly. That doesn't bother me but was curious about anyones experiences with them. I've heard most of the people up there are serious riders, not your average ones. |

Check out www.tailofthedragon.com Last week end,I stayed at the Phillip's hotel in Robbinsville, NC. NICE PLACE. The couple that owns the place are great too. I have not heard of the Iron Horse, but I'd say it is a fine place too. There are plenty of great places to stay. I hope you have a great time. The Dragon is great, but be sure to check out some other routes as well. North Georgia is beautiful!! Also the cops are patrolling heaviest on the week ends. Traffic gets pretty funky too. Have a great time! |

Can't wait. Will have the 10K done just before I leave. To bad my tire is dead at 9K. Starting to show heavy wear signs on it. Lasted to 8K and at 8500 miles I figured it is long gone. Now at 9K, well...... |

I've stayed at Fontana Village and was disappointed at the quality of that place - considering the price. Tapoco Lodge is (or was at least) the same price range and a great place right down the street from the Dragon. They have great food - home cooking at decent prices, and they were at the time also the only place in the area that sold beer it being a dry county 'n all. Henrik |

I stayed at the IronHorse in the bunk house and thougth it was great. I had one other guy one night and had it to myself the rest of the week. The first of the week the cruser guys were there then the V-Strom club showed up. It was fun. They have a meal most nights, you may eat or not. The lodge is great, pool table, big screen tv, satellite dish. Lots of socialising. Be sure to go to Wheels Of Time in Maggie Valley, you can get a $2.00 off coupon in the Lodge. Pretty impressive even if you don't like HD. I had a great experience and the owners are great. Now if the bunk house had been full it might have been different, but I have never stayed as nice for as little before. Good luck |

Budo, how much did the bunk house run? I read on their website it was $18, but have heard it was a bit more. |

Let me add my recommendations to Wheels of Time. I had a great time there in 2003. They try to keep it a working museum, so every piece of machinery runs - and they like to crank up the bikes to let you see/hear them run. I was standing next to the second most expensive bike in the museum for a photo when one of the custodians come over and say "you gotta sit on it." I of course thought he was joking and smiled politely, and he said 'No, really. Picture's no good unless you sit on it." So I did. While I was there, another visitor who used to own an old Panhead was told to take the one the museum had for a spin in the parking lot. We also got to see the huge 4-bay shop where they restore and maintain the bikes. A great experience. Henrik |

They did charge me $18.00 plus tax (each night) for the bunk house, includes linen, pillow and blanket and towls. I also heard it was $20.00, but I was charged $18.00, so... I sent them a email so they were expecting me. If you stay Friday they require you to stay, or pay for Sat. Most of their business is over the weekend of course. Really nice owners, good experience for me. One night I asked the owner if I could watch 'Faster' on the TV (they have a copy) and she put it up on the big screen, just for me. But after it started a few other folks settled in on the sofa to watch. |

Fontana is a little disappointing, a little frayed around the edges for what they're charging -- also, be warned, if you wish to eat there, the definately take the posted hours of the dining room seriously -- no slack is cut, at all -- while I've not stayed at the Iron Horse, Grounder and I visited a while back, just as they were opening -- great looking place -- had a good cross section of bike types out front as well -- the owner's were nice as they can be, and it's just a few minutes from the start (end) of the Cherohola (sp?), which is an ACES run! one GOOD thing if it's mostly cruisers -- they won't be able to judge the veracity of your tales as you spin a few yarns on the deck in the evening! ;-} |

Fontana is a little disappointing Maybe the Inn or the cabins, but if you enjoy camping, there campground is great, they allow up to 6 tents per site, its on a river/dam spill way, bathroom while old are clean, i thought it was fantastic, but i enjoy camping, and when you camp you get all the other amenaties that are offered to the cabin/inn people As i recall iron horse was pretty cool, we were there the first year they were kinda open, not done yet, but very nice, especially the cabins Cool spot, a little hard to find, but i am from chicago, soo i tend to get lost in the woods R |

Come on guys. I know someone's gotta be going in Aug. I could use the company. My parents ride HD's (not that that's a bad thing but there's no way they'll keep up.) |

I'd say you have a great sense of direction Roger. You made it here last summer, then again all you have to do is start riding east and don't stop untill you hit the end of the world!!!!! |
