Josh the only way your going to get one that actually holds gas is to contact the factory they either make them or know how to get the correct one, made from materials that hold up todays fuels Just drop Tom a call, i am sure he can hook you up, like hes hooked up several other RS owners R |

I'd let my tank go, but I want to unload the ENTIRE set of RS stuff, inc. seat (but not front fender-it's on my bike) as a complete package. Besides, it's got that broken "switch corner'. That might take a bit more than 2 weeks to fix and paint! AL |

What stuff do you have, what condition is it in and how much? |

I've got all of the bodywork pieces - tank with broken corner (it still has the solenoids and wiring installed and i have the toggle switch), fairing w/screen, tail section, 'flip-up' with hardware and leather seat back/pad, right and left side covers (4 pieces, 2 with the little leather pads mounted) Corbin seat, and the former owner said he would look for the mirrors and front sub-frame (for the fairing) and any other misc pieces and ship them to me when he gets back from Myrtle Beach. All are in excellent condition structurally, with exception of the broken tank corner. The paint is white with a blue pinstripe-it is a repaint, not orig, but is the stock color. Some bubbling in the paint, which I hear is a common problem. Seat is like new. No gas cap - like the front fender, it's on my bike too. I haven't had a chance to clean it up and do a more thorough inspection - it's all been hanging up in his garage since he re-did the bike in '96. If I recall right , he said the bike had 7 or 8 thou on the odo when he tore it down. Man- I don't know for sure how much it's worth. Roger said above that this stuff is still available, but for how much I couldn't say without some research. Off the 'top of my head' (where the hair is slightly thinning-much to my consternation) I'd say somewhere in the mid-teens. AL |

Airtech.com lists prices for their replacement parts here: http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/buell/RS12001989-93.htm I have a spare brand new fairing ($100 ebay). Last year on ebay a complete tail (incl corbin seat) went for $280 and I'm still kicking myself over that one. Some manufacturer has a selection of new windscreens for the RSs still listed online as being instock, tho I can't find them now. |

Just so i preface this, AL(leftcoast) is a very very cool Bueller, but Josh, you of all people should know NOT to buy this tank, it is not a newer replacement tank, it will split on the bottom just like Rexs tank, my tank, and Jonny M.'s tank, just to name a few, Al's price isnt off the mark, but after a few tank fulls your gona have to get a new one If i recall correctly, a new tank from Buell(not sure if its painted or primer) was $400, you know your getting the right part, you know its going to fit, and you know haw crappy the airtech stuff is, so dont cheep out, get the right part, otherwise your just going to kick youeself later Do it right the first time R |

Wow- I had no idea there was a problem with the orig tanks. Thanks for letting me know of this, as if I sold the stuff to someone and the tank let go, that would suck for all involved! Not ever having a stock RS, I wasn't aware of the splitting tank syndrome that effects the orig units. Mine is not split now, but according to Roger, it's only a matter of time. Since I DO NOT subscribe to the "let the buyer beware" mindset, It's good to know so all can be informed. (what is the latin for that line?) I would still like to sell the parts, but that will effect the price. I'll let everyone on this board when I have all the parts, and what I hope is a fair price for it all, before putting it on Ebay. Wow- I had no idea there was a problem with the orig tanks. Its not really the tank, but the newer fuels that are put in the tank, my understanding(Read i may be wrong) is that the new addatives and corn fuel, that are added cause the deterioration of that tanks, si its really not anything you or anyone else would now, if you wernt looking for it I dont think your off on the price however, considering the color and condition i am sure there in Plus creaming the tank may also work, but i havet done it, so not sure it would work I again ment no foul toward AL, heas a great guy, but most of the active RS owners have seen a tank split or 2, or seen bikes with replaced tanks, just want to remind some people again, would hate to see that nice SE motor blow up from outside particles R |

I know it seems I can see the top of the motor through the bottom of the tank when I fill up I'm mostly looking for the rest of the bodywork (tail, side pieces, tank) so I can get them painted (with my spare fairing) something other than red. |

Go ahead, Jim, let it out, tell us how you really feel! I was wondering about their RS front fender - the RS fender IMHO, has the best shape and lines of all the different Buell units. Mine has some minor damage from one of those padlock-on-the-rotor incidents, (caused by my mechanic-see profile) and I was contemplating getting a replacement some day. After Jim's glowing testimonial above, I will consider my source carefully. |

Al: If you need a front fender, talk to me first. You are running the RS fender now? If so, there may be such a thing as we can get some of them or perhaps have some made. I'm thinking it's time for a run of a dozen sets of RS bodywork. Court |

Yeah.....it's gotta be a topic for a Homecoming sidebar discussion....these bikes are just too popular and refuse to die. I'd like to talk to a couple of the guys who made the originals and see what would be involved in making some. You folks do recall that Excalibur made some of the bodywork....but the quality was inconsistent. Josh, you be at Homecoming? Court |

Not questioning anybody, but if my local dealer was able to contact the factory within the past 6 months and get a newer, fuel resistant tank, whats to say there isnt one or a few already avaliable??? R |

I will be at Homecoming trailering the FJR with the RS tank in the truck. (I'm doing CLASS that Mon/Tues which requires like-new tires which is why I'm trailering a touring bike) I had planned on bringing both. I'm currently emailing a couple folks at the factory about repairing this one, but have not gotten an answer to "is there one on the shelf?" If this one isn't worth repairing (re Roger's posts about fuel) then ... Roger, you still have the brake pads? |

If this one isn't worth repairing (re Roger's posts about fuel) then ... I have no idea if your tank can or can not be fixed, have it checke d out first, plus Jonny M. put a layer of epoxy on the bottom of his, and made it work, but lost about 1/2 the tnaks capacity Roger, you still have the brake pads? Yes but you may get 2 pairs, i dont think there the right ones, so bring tha tank and pads. i think there, well you will have to see them R |

> but lost about 1/2 the tanks capacity Works for me, since due to the (I'm assuming) length of the main and reserve intakes I only have about 1/2 usable capacity now.. Were those front or rear pads? |

Talk to Jonny at home coming, he will explain the entire procedure, and what he did or didnt do Pads, well i really dont know what there for, i really hadnt looked at them much, till yesterday as i was packing for homecoming, so i pulled my older rear pads, looked at these ant there no wear near the same, so i am going to look at the front ones, and if there not the same you may end up with 2 pairs, however if they are the same you will end up with 0, due to me have the rare dual front brake set up Will look again when i get home, but i suspect you will end up with 2 sets of front pads R |
