2005 XB12R with factory race kit. Can't get the bike to run with the race ECM. The bike will start but runs extremely rough, stumbles and dies. It runs very rich and immediately fouls the plugs. I've reset the TPS but that seemingly does nothing. Oddly, the VDSTS software doesn't allow me to set the idle throttle position beyond .6 degrees. (same with the stock ecm). I've put the stock unit back on and the bike runs fine (after a change of plugs). Faulty ecm? Ideas anyone? |

Jon, Are you absolutely sure that you have the latest version of the software? When I purchased mine this Spring, it would not reset the TPS. Al Lighton (American Sport Bike) informed me of the problem. I simply loaded the latest version off of Technoresearch's website and the problem was fixed. I can now reset the TPS. Keith |

jon i think you have answered your own question. the closed throttle position is read by your race ecm as 0.6 degrees. this means that your fuel map is essentially advanced by .6 degrees, so at idle you are getting idle plus .6 degrees of fuel injected. you are not succesfully resetting your tps value. suggest you contact technoresearch for the latest software version. which should work. please report back. |

Fullpower I set the throttle position at zero degrees before resetting the TPS with the VDSTS (returned a "pass". What I was trying to say is that the maximum number of degrees I can obtain on the idle is .6 (at which point the bike is turning about 3000 rpm). At 1100 or so, I get a reading of approximately .4 degrees. With the engine off, 5.5 degrees would have me twisting the throttle about half way around. It would appear to be a completely different scale. I sent Sandro (the engineer at Technoresearch) an email this morning, I'll see what he has to say. The VDSTS is returning a pass but is it really resetting the TPS? |

What version number of the software are you using? You can download the latest version from www.technoreseach.com by clicking on downloads. Get the standard version of VDSTS. Are you sure you are following the procedures correctly for resetting the TPS? Backing the idle screw all the way out and snapping the throttle a few times to close everything up then setting the TPS to zero with the software. Sure sounds like the TPS zero setting is not getting written o the ECM properly. Keep us posted. |

Jn, I just did mine this after (01 X1 Race ECM) . I confused on the .6 degrees. Maybe I didn't notice the decimal place. I backed the idle adjuster all the way out, which seems to be way past 0, snapped the throttle closed a bunch ,reset the TPS, then set the TP to 5.8 degrees. Its ran right around 1100 when I started it. The odd thing with mine is that The TP will only go from 0 to 85 degrees. I tried moving the throttle plate by hand, in case the cable was limiting movement, but got the same result. I agree with you , I wish they'd show something more on the screen when you reset the TPS, maybe the old value the ECM had and the new one. Also, my X1 used to run like that, it was the engine temp sensor, but I had to ride for a couple miles before it would foul the plugs The newest software is 2.75d, you can get it off their website , you don't need to talk to them for that. |

Using the latest version but running it on a PDA. I had some communication (timing) issues with the software initially but Sandro addressed those. I am following the correct procedure. The idle was backed out, TPS reset (with a pass returned) and I then set the throttle degree (according to the VDSTS software) at .4 degrees. I'll see what Technoresearch have to say and post my results. |

Seems I have an older version of the dongle (2.1) that may be causing the problem. Sandro at Technoresearch has been excellent in getting me through this. I've shipped the Palm and all cables to them and I'll wait for the verdict. I'll post the findings later. |

jon, are you able to run your stock ECM in the mean time? nice to have a spare "black box" in stock. main reason i ordered a race ecm, so i would have the spare. |

Yeah, I reinstalled the stock ecm, stock filter and snorkel. It actually runs really well like this. I'll try the race ecm when I get my stuff back but if there's no significant difference, I might leave it as is. I've never been a K&N fan anyway. IMHO they let a lot of air in but lots of grit too. I'll let you now how it pans out when Technoresearch returns the goods. |

Don't flame me for asking the obvious, but did you turn the idle screw all the way out? |

Got word back from Technoresearch. It appears that the dongle was faulty. I'll try the race ecm but I like the way the bike is working with the stock ecm, filter and snorkel. No indication that it's running lean and it pulls hard. |
