i have an 04 xb12s with about 7000 miles. i have the race kit. ive got dead spots just below 3000 rpms and in spots between 3000 and 3500. if i try to maintain speed at those areas, it dies and sputters down until it hits a good area. what could this be? should it be a warranty issue? thanks. |

did you have the TPS zeroed??? you could have that problem or the air fuel value might need to be reset id take it to the dealer izzinya |

I have a remus race pipe, 12 lid and am desnorkeled (painful) and running a stock ECM the bike runs great but the throttle response on closing the throttle is really slow. Is it possible that this is also a TPS problem? |

"No your idle is set to high". True, and tricky. That adjustment is s e n s e t i v e. |

It's not TOO sensitive if you adjust it when the bike is hot (I don't mean warm). |

And I noticed that when I swapped my race ecm for the stock the return to idle was slower than with the race ecm. Surveyor, how come you're still running the stock ecm with that setup? Aren't you afraid you'll be running too lean in certain areas? |

Ingemar, we spoke about this in previous threads, as you know there are mixed views on the benefits of race ecms, tfi units and power commanders and I haven't been convinced about any of them hence the stock ecm which is running rich at top end and lean in the middle!! This is ok for the track where you are running in the upper rev range most of the time but not good for general use. It runs better on a fully open pipe but that draws the law like flies on S**t and gets me booted off the track. Thanks for the thoughts guys but I don't think it's my idle setting as, like ingemar's, my bike does return to normal tickover but it just takes more time than it should respond to a closed throttle. Rebel, sorry if I've hogged your thread, no offence. |

A speculation someone shared with me was that the XB keeps the injectors open a little bit to reduce the flywheel effect and lessen the chance of locking up the rear wheel. I tried to feel a difference in closing the throttle and flipping the 'run' switch to 'off' in 2nd gear. I *think* with flipping the switch the flywheel effect was greater but I'm not sure. Sorry man, just a lotta words to tell ya I don't really know. |

Rebel, it IS a warranty issue. Tps reset should resolve it, if not, warranty work gets done. The bike should not have dead spots between 3 and 3.5k, end of story. |

In my A/F testing I've noticed that in the approx 2500 to 3500 give or take RPM area my 9w/race runs leaner than when at higher RPMs. Not too lean but leaner, like maybe .95 lambda. This shows up as a dip in the torque curve on the Buell published curves for the race setup also. I think its a weak spot in the map and any other problem tends to manifest itself here. Open, loud pipes make it even leaner and exacerbate the problem - hence the complaints of loss of low end punch. I'm guessing a TPS that's a little off might also manifest itself first in this range. I tried to get my TFI to just add gas in this range but I was never able to get it right to my satisfaction. I ended up removing the TFI as an added level of complexity that wasn't achieving my goal. |

Hey Jersey.. Open, loud pipes make it even leaner and exacerbate the problem ...Then wd. it just be easy to add fuel with the TFI still.??? |

Hogs - Absolutely. I could just never convince myself that I could get the TFI to add fuel just in that range and leave everything else alone. That pot #4 always troubled me. What I really want is a map that I can adjust & know exactly what's going on. |

Mine spits and sputters like crazy below 2800 if I slam the throttle, but anything above that is screamin great (I think). Should I make any adjustments? Hate to loose the smoothness above 3000 because I rarely run hard under that. |
