I just got another case of Amsoil Synthetic Motorcycle Oil and the label was different from the last one. I think I mentioned before that I use it 'cause a friend sells it - I don't make any claim as to how good it is or isn't. I thought it interesting that right on the label it says "AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is recommended for Harley Davidson, Buell and other motorcycles calling for 15W-50 or 20W-50." It also says it's "engineered for maximum performance in V-Twin engines, motorcycle transmissions and primary chaincases. It is wet clutch compatible and features better heat resistance and wear protection than other motorcycle oils." It also has no friction modifiers according to the label. Pretty cool that they mentioned Buell right on the label. | ||

Sweet. My buddy at the custom chopper shop sells it - it's all he uses in the twins he services. I use it and love it. Glad to see they include Buell as well... | ||

Jerseyguy, didn't the price also increase from about $5.50/quart up to about $8.50/quart? I've seen posts about their new 20W-50 MC oil formulation on a couple of other boards. | ||

Just my two cents regarding Amsoil. Liked the products enough to become a 'prefered customer' but then I had an issue that dictated that I deal with Amsoil Customer Service and I had the absolute worst experience imaginable (maybe even unimaginable). I would now use Wesson oil over Amsoil. | ||

I used the 20/50 harley/buell stuff and 75/90gear oil last time I changed my oils. When I changed it again 3000 miles later the gear oil was still green and the primary oil was still nice n yellow.(as opposed to caramel from the gears n black from the primary)((like EVERY other time I've changed them)) In my OPINION it's the best oil ever n its all I'm ever gonna use from now on. | ||

The only Rumor I have heard on the Amsoil is that the guys all the Rockets don`t like it or have heard its not good for high reving machines take that for what its worth..! | ||

Whether they achieved their design goal or not I wouldn't have a clue. I just found it interesting that they very specifically thought of us when designing the stuff. | ||

Probably the worst advice you can get is by reading claims made by bike oil companies. They're like politics or religion--a lot of claims without factual evidence The best unbiased advice is probably from retired oil company chemists who are active bikers, and who have a thorough understanding of the various elements in oils but no longer being employed have less reasons to promote a company product. | ||

I switched from Mobile 1 V-Twin to Amsoil 20w50 and like the Amsoil better. The motor seems a little quieter and the clutch has less slip (better feel). The 20w50 meets 90w gear lube viscosity ratings also. Good stuff. | ||

Since switching to Amsoil, have you extended your oil change intervals or stayed with the factory specification? | ||

Since the tranny is separate from the engine, I use Amsoil racing oil 20W50 in the ENGINE because it contains friction modifiers, which should be good for the engine, and Mobile 75/90 gear lube in the tranny. It's amazing to still find metal debris in the tranny. I'm talking about metal shavings or particles as long as 1/4" after 6000 miles. The debris look really big too me. | ||

War - I change it every 3K miles. No particular reason, I do it in most of my vehicles. I figure it's cheap insurance regardless of the cost of the oil & filter. DC - I brutalize my bike & have done so since day 1. I've had some fuzz on the magnets but nothing like you speak of. | ||

I prefer and use Agip 20w-50 oil. it is the only oil on the market that uses pure mineral oil. never had a motor problem in 13 years. | ||

DC if I were you I would get that tranny looked at. That doesnt sound right. | ||

I'm not touching my tranny because it's working so great. It's very smooth. It's got no "clunkiness" whatsoever. I have a GP shifter btw. It's so smooth that I can up shift 2-5 without clutching. Downshshifting is another story. But still not bad at all. |
