I've been hanging around Badweb for about four years now. Some of you may remember that I first came here not long after an injury that left me without the use of my legs. I was told I would never walk again but I proved them wrong...no surprise there. Then, of course, the Docs said I would never ride again. Well, it has taken four years, lots of physical therapy, and a totally stubborn personality, but once again I have proved "them" wrong. Last month I was able to get my license renewed and went immediately and bought a new bike. Now I am catching up for lost time with a vengeance...3,500 miles in the last 27 days. Not a record, but it sure is great to ride again.

Now, before you start "congratulations Dave", I have to tell you that after visiting the local Buell dealer (3 times) and test riding a couple of non-Buells, I decided to not buy a Buell. I bought a butt ugly R1200GS BMW. The story is too long to tell now, but maybe if things change a little I will still buy a Buell in the fall. We'll see...

Anyhow, thanks to all of you that have sent cards and "good lucks" during my recovery. I really do appreciate that. Be seeing ya on the road or at the 'web.

Dave

Dave,
You're walking AND riding. Life is good, man! Lots of us on the board own bikes other than Buells, but we're still a big family.

Congrats on the new ride and your recovery! Hope to ride with you some day!

Hey, Dave. I, too, was told I wouldn't walk again, let alone ride. A week ago last Saturday I took an XB12R for a ride during a demo at St. Paul HD/Buell. I was a bit nervous at first, but got over that quickly. Everything just felt right. I'll have a new bike soon. Stubbornness is definitely a good quality when recovering. Welcome back to two wheels.

Dave (and Lou),
Seriously mate, congratulations. Reading stuff like that really makes my day.
Don't be too bothered by buying the GS. There's a few of us here that also own them in one form or another
Excellent bikes.

Nothing as pleasant for a doctor as being wrong on that point.
And for the bike ? Any engine on two wheels will do well.

SuperDave indeed! That's wonderful news - we can always use more of those : ) Very impressive "stubborn personality'. I'm sure both you and "them" are happy you proved them wrong.

And don't worry about the Beemer - we're all one motley 2-wheeled family here.

Dave -- good for you, sir! it's great to overcome the odds, and show the experts that the human spirit is the most powerful force known to upright human kind --

don't matter what you're riding, THAT you're is the coolest thing -- made my day, too!

Hey guys, thanks so much. This is the very reason I still come to Badweb!

Ravensmith22..congratulations to you too! Learning to walk again was wonderful...being able to ride again is without description.

The beemer, Susie, reminds me of a girlfriend I had in my younger days. Not much to look at but very gentle and a pleasure to ride:o)

Most of my buddies ride V-Stars or something like that and think the GS is funny. The more they laugh the more I love her! If you ever get a chance to test ride a GS do so!

Anyhow, thanks again for the kind words.

Ride on
Dave

BTW - not buying a Buell was mostly a physical thing. I think they are awesome bikes.

Dave, I just got told by my Doc yesterday..."you won't be able to ride with that arm for atleast a year..." he doesn't know me too well...They told me the same thing when my leg got busted, that I wouldn't be able to ride for several years because of the break and the rod...1 year later and I was back on two, I am hopeing to be atleast doing short rides within a month or two, not expecting anything long, but if I can make it to the store and back, then damn its all good...I do have to say, the support of a good woman that keeps telling me she can't wait to ride with me again helps too...So keep in the Wind Dave, and don't be a stranger : )

Has anyone had a recent increase in Buell sales? Last month, all of a sudden, all our Buells, most of which had been sitting idly for around a year, were all sold.

I am ready to sell this bike to anyone who will buy it. I still owe $7000 and would gladly sell it for that much. I paid nearly $12k out the door.

Here are the ridiculous lies that were told to me by the salesman

1) that it weighed under 400lbs, I think 385 or 395,something like that. Mine actually weighs over 460lbs.

2) It is supposed to have 101hp, mine dynoed at 88hp , we live at 4200ft altitude. The torque was 78ft-lbs.

3) The "race kit" was a total waste of money.

4)Every other harley motorcycle can be re-programmed (ECM), except this turd.

5) Any 600cc japanese bike will blow this bike away. My friend slaughtered me on his CBR600F4, I guess the RR model would really kill it.

6) The bike fell over on its kickstand while warming up, it broke the peg and blinkers.

If you are considering this buying one of these bikes...DON'T. Almost any bike is better, any japanese 60 is WAY better. If you want a good V-twin, get a Honda RC51.

Mitch,
With this as your first post I'll simply suggest stating or filling in your profile as to your geographic location so that any interested parties can figure out shipping or delivery options.
I'll withhold further comment.

"1) that it weighed under 400lbs, I think 385 or 395,something like that. Mine actually weighs over 460lbs. "

It does weigh less than 400 when dry.

"2) It is supposed to have 101hp, mine dynoed at 88hp , we live at 4200ft altitude. The torque was 78ft-lbs. "

It does... At the crank.

"3) The "race kit" was a total waste of money."

No it wasn't.

"4)Every other harley motorcycle can be re-programmed (ECM), except this turd. "

So can this one... You just need to be a little more creative ; ).

"5) Any 600cc japanese bike will blow this bike away. My friend slaughtered me on his CBR600F4, I guess the RR model would really kill it. "

In a straight line sure... But get the Buell to some corners and you'll (or a good rider anyway) will be showing just about ANY other bike regardless of power what's up. If someone can take anything (except a good super-moto) through turns faster than you on your Buell... they are a better rider.

"6) The bike fell over on its kickstand while warming up, it broke the peg and blinkers. "

And you're just entirely too insecure to mention that it was parked facing down a hill? That's just plain dumb. In my opinion anyway...

"If you want a good V-twin, get a Honda RC51."

Which is heavier, has a longer wheelbase, doesn't turn in like a fox after a rabbit, is just like every one elses bike and is "old news". Go get one... Have a great day.

In any case... Sounds to me like you had a bad experience with a dealer and then made a stupid mistake that got a couple (inexpensive mind you) parts broken. Oh, and it sounds like you aren't much of a rider either if you can't school a 600 on an XB.

Maybe you should just get something that you have the ability to bring closer to it's limits so you aren't made to feel so inferior by the XB. Might I suggest a 250 Rebel?

Mitch... if you are trying to sell your bike, you are doing a really crappy job.

Sounds like you bought the wrong bike. No big deal, live and learn, sell it and buy an R1 or a Busa. They are exceptional bikes for what it sounds like is important to you. Had you come here before buying your bike, and described those same goals, we would have told you the same thing. Go buy the R1.

Enjoy the new bike. You will be able to just pin the throttle, and go a little faster then the person beside you that is just pinning the throttle, until you either loop the thing or get your license revoked.

Funny, I have yet to race my XB9SX against anyone, but I keep enjoying the thing more and more with every mile I ride. I only have a 9, and only 76 HP at the wheel, but I have gone hundreds of miles never going more then half throttle, and still had an absolutely wonderful ride.

and maybe do a little research on the next bike to avoid further disappointment. Imagine spending 12g's and not have a clue what your getting.
