I was leaving class tonight and started up my 'Bolt turned around to put on my helmet and I watched the bike fall over out of the corner of my eye. It was parked pointed down a very slight downgrade. I guess the shaking made the bike start to roll down the grade which caused the kick stand to fold back up. I picked it up and checked for damage; turn signal, clutch lever, and left foot peg all broke. It scratched my mirror and bar end as well. The left handlebar appears to be bent but I couldn't tell if the tree bent any since it was dark. It still ran well and the steering was straight. My frame pucks never even touched the ground and I didn't notice any damage to the plastics.

Has anyone else had this had happen to them? Also, could anyone provide a price for parts?

Sorry to hear about your bolt. It hasn't happend to me but my brother just did it a couple weeks ago with his 05 R6. I was able to get my foot under it and that was it. His bike was on almost level ground facing down hill also. I try not to let my 12R idle on the stand after that mishap. I don't even put in on the stand facing down hill. Sorry again. I would get in touch with Daves from Appleton Buell. He is on this board and gives badwebbers a 10% discount on parts. I am sure he has most of the parts that got broken in stock if not all of them. I don't recommend parking it facing downhill, but I've never had any trouble facing it uphill and it's been parked on a pretty steep grade uphill....Sorry man, that's gotta hurt!

oh boy .. u too?! this happened to me - precisely the same scenario - on mother's day!!

broke off *hero blob* of clutch footpedal .. scratched tail section .. scratched, chipped & dented frame/tank just above intake snorket, which was severely smashed into little pieces!! oh, & oil cooler got a little dinged up!

is it the fracking season for this or what??!! : )

the best part for me is that mine is brand new '05 & i had only put 90 km on it (canada) or 55 miles!!?!!

oh, my heart wept .. the only new vehicle i have ever owned in my 39 yrs & that happens in the first week of ownership!

so i did what any self-respecting motorhead wld do under the circumstances .. cursed using the most profane of language & went for a brutal (for a new, not run-in bike) 1 hrs blast averaging 140 kmh (nearly 90mph) .. taking it up to 175kph now & then .. revving as high as 4500-5000 ..

i figured that it was *christened* now, so time to give it its first communion! :0

glad to know i am not alone in this strange malady.

I was always taught "always park your bike pointed up hill" they said it was to improve control for manuevering, and aparently (never was mentioned) for keeping the bike on the stand while warming up.

Not trying to be insensitive, honest. I really do feel your pain, I hope that this is the only time your bike's shiny bits will touch pavement.

Yup, same thing for me : ( bike was only a few days old. i wasn't even parked on an decline.. . beast just shook itself right off the sidestand. i had the exact same damage as Butch. give DaveS a shout in the sponsor thread.

Vonsliek, you should enjoy your bike now that your not worried about that first scratch. I bought a Honda Shadow new and was kind of uncomfortable on it for a while at first because I was afraid of scratching it. 8 months later I laid her down. After fixing her to ride again I found I had more fun now that I wasn't worried about scratching it.

most all Bikes from East Troy do the Buell Boogie while idling -- while the MaDeuece hasn't pitched over, it DOES meander down the (fairly level) drive way a foot or so while mumbling to itself waiting for me to get my helmet and gloves on .. . .

there have been numerous discussions on how to best deal with this personality trait -- rubber-band/velcro strap around the front brake lever, little plastic wedge behind the lever to depress the master cylinder plunger, and so on . . . .. when I read them, I always go "ah HA! great idea!" and prmptly return to my lazy ways . . . .

first scratch is the toughest, sir -- no you can relax!

This happened to me a couple of years ago. It was a terrible sound that put a hole in my stomach. Luckily, Buell parts are pretty cheap. It only cost me $60 in parts to put things back to new.

i got the answer .. a team of assistants & a paddock stand on read wheel .. start her up, give last minute interviews to greg white - who just happened to be in the neighborhood - throw a leg over, after sizing up one of the comely umbrella girls, thenas u are push/lifted over & free, peel back the throttle & tear the ears out of all admiring yr awesome talent, fearlessness & general amzing manliness! ; )

oh, i am allowed to dream & it beats the snow i calgray (no, its not a misspelling, its the damn thruth) today!

Sent you a PM Daves. I called my local dealer and they do have all the parts in stock for $46.15 before tax. My grip got scuffed and they are worn so I think I'm going to go ahead and replace them. Any suggestions on those?

I have learned the hard way on a S2, not even running. Slightly down hill, caught it out of the corner of my eye, luckily caught it just before the point of no return.

I don't trust the XB pointing downhill either.

What kind of shocks does that mower have anyway?

I'm waiting for VTEC or for any other acronym for variable valve timing to show up on a production bike. It'll probably be Japanese but will open up all sorts of tuning possibilities. The best of low and high end rpm power. YES! Can't wait.

Had exactly the same thing happen to me - Buell riders must avoid idling on downgrades. Dave got me taken care of.

Yup the VFR is the Interceptor 800. That is the first and only....so far.

i spoke w/ the salesman at my dealership abt my idling drop & he said .. "yeah, i've heard abt that from a few ppl, i must remember to tell ppl when buying .. tho i've never had it happen to me." .. he is he son of the owners tho, so he probably has a perfectly large, flat garage & team of assistants .. like, the d/ship mechanics!?! ; )

Dunno if they're all like this:
* kick stand down and lean bike onto stand
* push bike backwards while it's still on the stand
* bike leans over a little more and kindof locks in place

First time I ever parked my 04, it rolled back on its own as I stepped away from it and since then I always make sure it's 'settled'

i ALWAYS rock bike against stand to *settle* it .. i don't trust those things intrinsically .. but now i don't trust them at all.

i have notified local importer (canada) of this problem & asked that if dealerships are aware of this information/occurrence, could they please inform buyers at some point prior to delivery of the potential for it!??!!

The S1W fell off her stand one day as I momentarily turned away from her.... She wasn't even started, just parked, pointing slightly downhill waiting to be loaded in the truck... Bent the clutch lever bad and the bars slightly... Replaced the lever, still living with the bars....
