Okay, just back from my three day 900+ miler that turned into 1100 miles. Who would think of adding more miles in the middle of the 900 miles planned? Well, we did, and I want to say that the bike, now with 8590 miles on it performed great! We started Friday morn, in about 40 degree, damp weather with rain threatening the entire time. Sat. it was clear blue sky, and ended with a SLOW traffic laiden trip to the race ( Nascar ) track, It was hot, and the bikes fan ran almost constantly as we crawled along. It was so warm that it would when we stopped to inquire about parking it would not start ( the starter would not turn over ) No biggie since we could park there. Met some great people, saw a boring race, and fired up and ran back to the hotel without a hitch. Today we spent most of the miles at a rather high sustained rate, then heavy HEAVY traffic. I did a lot of creepin, then flying, then creeepin. NO pinging, No start problems at any time other than that mentioned above. In fact each morn, first off, the thing would fire almost immediately. Got between 50 and 58 mpg depending on the roads. Only complaint was not enough turns! Comfort wise, no problems, except for my neck. Legs and arse are fine, some problems with arm and wrist on those long boring I95 runs... too straight, flat, and boring. The bags I bought and complained about managed to hold all I needed, and worked very well. In fact it was very easy to remove them all, and carry them into the room. Then I had my streetfighter back. I got a kick out of the HD guys that I was with spending 15 minutes strapping and un- strapping there nice big bags. Over-all, I really enjoyed it. The bike would prefer to be tossed about, but it handled the long boring straights just fine. My Buell, .. I think I'll keep her |

What did you do with your bike when spending the night at a hotel? I want to take some trips, but I am unsure about leaving my bike in a parking lot overnight. |

I would suspect it was outside. I am preparing for a trip in Aug. and will be bringing my bike cover for that. |

Just wheel the thing into your hotel room - it won't go anywhere that way! If you're concerned about screwing up the carpet, lay a few bath towels down first. (Message edited by tomzweifel on May 09, 2005) |

I do numerous trips that involve leaving the bike outside at a motel/hotel. Several tips: As mentioned, a travel sized bike cover protects against curious eyes and weather. Always try to get a first floor room where you can park the bike outside the window. Sometimes, the front desk clerk will let you park under their overhang by the entrance, which is usually visible from the front desk. On one trip, we were able to wheel the bikes inside the fenced in pool area, and they locked it up for us. It can never hurt to ask. Another bit of unsolicited advice- dont use the hotel towels to clean the bike (drying is o.k.)....leaves a bad taste in their mouth for the next riders that come along. Just carry your own wash cloth in a baggie. |

I was lucky enough to have a first floor room, and yeas, park it in front of the room. Like I said, I took all the bags off, and I have a cable lock I ran through the wheel. I don't know about all locations, but I believe the area we were in was very safe. There were 5 of us, 3 HD's, a Kawi, and me. We did get a lot of attention, mostly from the girls, women. It is interesting to see the difference in the people who make comments, seems the younger ones liked the Buell, 'old farts like the Heritage, and the V-rod and Wide Glide got a mixed bag. Sorry, no real comments on the Cow. At the race, we were very lucky, a guy outside turn 1 parks cars on his property. He was full, but offered us his car port. He was a very nice guy, moved his Lincoln Navigator so we could park there. One thing I might do, if I do any more of these trips, I think I'll buy another set of rims and tires with a harder compound. My rear now has a flat area right through the middle. The tire got hot and sticky in the middle, and the highway just ate it up.( Dunlop 207 RR ) |
