Looking at the latest CW I noticed they had a 'long term' XB12S. Glanced at the table at the bottom and noted they only get 37mpg average out of it. Does that seem kind of low for that model? I mean, my X1 gets 44 - 48. Or is it just because they abuse the snot out of it?

Likely spirited city driving.

I only get mid 30's on my 2000 M2 around town, I ride fairly aggressively.

Freeway mileage is much better.

37 is probably pretty good for fi'd buell ridden hard...

Spirited indeed. They must be running it close to redline all the time and/or racing every stoplight. For everyday use I usually get > 50 mpg on my 12S and have *never* seen less than 40 (in 10K miles over 6 months)...and I don't ride like a little old lady from Pasadena.

IMHO most people who are really interested in a long term test don't constantly flog their bikes and would rather see numbers for more "normal" riding or at least a breakdown of mileage vs usage.

My S1 is jetted on the rich side and gets a consistent 33mpg city, around 45 mpg highway. I ride like an most of the time.

You people are lucky. I get about 32-37 mpg. I'm also 230 lbs. My wife is 100 less and gets 46-52.

I also ride a LOT harder than her.

I get about 32-37 mpg. I'm also 230 lbs.

I'm 230 lb as well. I just rode my M2 down to the beach as part of a school field trip with my daughter. On the way down, I was following the buses the kids were on. Tour buses fly, always running at least 80 mph. I got 45 mpg. On the way back I was ahead of the busses and doing between 60 and 70. I got 52 mpg on that trip. So I'm guessing the mileage has a whole lot more to do with how hard you push the bike than it does with the weight of the rider.

I was glad to see the John Burns is still working with the CW folks if only a little bit. He's been a great Buell supporter.
