I was doing some digging on the 10K service and have a question. I read that the forks do not need to be done on the 04+ XB's until 20K. Does anyone know if this is true or not? | ||

I only have an 03 & 05 service manual, but both state to change the fork oil at 10K, so I'm guessing 04 is the same. | ||

The 04' manual has it listed to change fork oil every 10K miles. I assume it's because of the oil picking up moisture, which could then cause corrosion. Anyone now the reason behind the fluid change? (Message edited by gowindward on May 06, 2005) | ||

Every 10k. The fluid still looked clean, but it made a noticeable difference (not as mushy). xbolt12 | ||

I would say that hydraulic fluid (fork oil) breaks down over time with use. It gets old. | ||

Brake fluid absorbs moisture over short periods of time, from internal heat and external cooler temps( think of a closed container out of the fridge into the microwave then left to stand). Suggestion nobody considers, flush your cages brake system. You will be surprised at the difference in pedal feel( helps maintain the rubber seals also). | ||

The recommendation from the factory is to drain and re-fill DOT4 brake systems every 2 years. I agree, you can absolutely feel a difference as long as the system is bled correctly. | ||

I was told by a reliable source that the fork oil is really not a mandatory thing to get changed out at 10k. My forks still do there job at 14k. I'll probably change it when the seals go. Later J |
