What are these for? I was wiping down my S-1 and noticed the square spaces on the tops of each cylinder. I am guessing for airflow purposes??

I've always wondered that myself. I would think it would be better to close them up.

Many evo-based rocker covers have that verticle hole. I can only figure its for airflow to the center of the head, but there are no cooling fins there, so extra airflow woulddn't help much, would it?

i think the one your talking about is the access hole for dual plugged head. to run the wire threw and change that plug. also will allow rising hot air to "vent" when the bike isnt moving.

On the FI bikes, like my X1 it is where the temp sensor goes... just FYI

Cycle World, a few months ago, did an issue on V-Twins and traced their development. One of the things they gave the Harley engine credit for was the cooling of the head that is possible with pushrods and isn't possible with overhead cams. With just the rockers up there, you can have such a hole in the rocker covers for airflow.

That's cause the guys that ride TCs never rev them over 2000rpm.

Thats another thing i wonder about...I see guys build a sweet 95" TC, put in the 6200 rpm ignition module, and then deliberately not go above 2500 rpm. Why go big bore, if you don't use it? i just don't understand...

MY TC88 gets to use its upper RPM band...quite a bit actually : )

Funny you should mention that.. I seem to have 'bumped' my limiter Saturday on my Fatboy.. Damn.. who'd have thought you could get that big TC95 to miss a beat like that? heheheheh.. Ok, I was probably going a little hard in third when it happened..but it's a tough motor, it'll take it till it can't..
