Does anyone have chin spoiler installation instructions? |

I wouldn't mind that either. I've got one that came with my bike, not mounted or painted. Sittin' down in the basement all lonely like... |

No instructions but they are pretty straight forward, I had one on my M2 and it attached on the right side via the Buell nameplate's(I think it is called a swingarm stabilizer) two back bolts and on the left side via the two lower bolts to the cam cover. I had to get some spacers/nylon washers at the hardware store to keep it from vibrating, which probably could be solved by attaching a bracket-homemade of course, unless you have it-via the small front mounting hole on the right front portion of the fairing to the front shock mount which I have seen somewhere around here. Good luck and I hope that helps. |

There is a pic of the instructions archived somewhere on the BadWeB - around 2001 would be my guess. I took the easy route and bought the mounting kit though it's probably no longer available. You need two longer studs like CJ said but into the primary and you'll need the spacers. The front shock bracket is simply a short lug with a twist in it and you'll need it for best results. Like I say, I saved messing by just buying the kit. It saves time when cutting up spacer lengths and fiddly stuff like holding the spoiler in place measuring several times, but hey, needs must when the devil rides. Search archives for 'chin spoiler' would be my suggestion. Rocket |

Just a question: what does a chin spoiler do functionally? Improve gas mileage? Increase horsepower? Provide a small secret storage compartment? Protect the oil filter or engine cases from debris getting thrown up by the front tire? Improve cylinder cooling? Other? Just curious. |

Or like Pete once said Mike, acts as a plow when you stuff it into the kitty litter! But they do look good in carbon. Rocket |

you could source the parts, if not the kit, from the dealer -- most, if not all, the parts are X1 items, and should be in stock like Rocker sez, saves a lot of fiddly measuring and cutting and re-measuring and re . . . . . |

I have the necessary HW in stock. Back when we were selling a CF one that came from a company other than Buell, I assembled the kit from the parts manuals. I wasn't crazy about the quality of that CF part so I killed it and now I just sell the Buell CF chin spoilers. They're a bit pricier, but the quality is good and they come with the mounting kits. But I have a few of the old mounting kits here still. Not on the web site, gimme a call if you need a set. It is pricier than it should be for a bunch of HW and standoffs, but I just charge what Buell does. Al |

No change there then Al. It was pricey from Buell back when I bought my kit. Not that it matters to most but another consideration I had was to keep the originality of the Buell theme for my S1W. But then again I'm very careful what I use anywhere on her so I'm a little odd with running parts manufactured by the after market unless they're of a quality and theme that fits my S1W's resume. So that's another reason I got my hands on the Buell hardware mounting kit for the chin spoiler - it's made for the job and it's the genuine article. If Al's got 'em I'd buy 'em. Rocket |
