Well, now I can say this with firsthand knowledge. Last night over at a buddies house and we where talking about the way my D&D sounds. I realised I have never heard my bike when I wasn't on it. Another GOOD friend had just gotten there and not started drinking yet, so I ask him to ride it up and down the street while I stand on the side to here her.( Most people don't even get to touch my bike, but he rides an 05 R1 and we had just spent a year in Iraq watching each other's back so I really trust him.)He takes off goes down the road a little and turns around comes back passes me and starts to go into a curve. From what it looked like to me he started to lean for the curve and the XB was just more responsive than he was use to. The bike went down faster than he thought and it spooked him, he stood her up and started to hit the brakes. The bike began to wabble and then he went down, at about 35-40 mph. The bike hit and slid on its left side for 20-30 feet, hit the curb with the front wheel, spun around, and slid another 15-20 feet. I ran over he was already standing I checked him out (road rash nothing major) and then turned all my attention to the bike! Well, Front rim: Broken in 3 places, pieces found along the road. Tire: Piece of wheel sticking thru Front brake rotor: Looks ok, but getting it checked out Left slider fork: About a 15 degree bend at base Shifter lever: ground down a bit, missing the shifter stud Left bar end: scraped up a bit. lost bar end mirror Left Frame Puck: Ground down to almost nothing Frame: NOT A SCRATCH, DENT OR MARK ANYWHERE!!! So do frame pucks work? HE!! ya. Will they work at 80 or 100 mph? I don't know. I have seen frame slides on other bikes not work at 35-40 mph. I'm happy with the pucks, but not happy with the damage. WEll what are you going to do? Guess I'll get start fixing her now. Aaron (Message edited by dilysi73 on May 01, 2005) |

Damn, that sucks. I hope you can get her repaired soon & I hope your friend heals. He must feel terrible about what happened. That's why I never ride anyone else's bike or drive anyone else's car if I can't afford to pay for any possible damages that may occur. I'd feel extremely lousy & guilty if I screwed up on some one else's pride & joy. |

Ya he feels pretty bad. He gave me the keys to his dodge ram so I could get around( the XB is all I have, rain or shine) and he is able to take care of the damages, thankfully. Aaron

Agreed, frame pucks are the #1 investment for the XB - maybe the only one that actually yields a tangible return on investment. |

Sorry to hear about the bike, but I would bet that you would let that same friend ride your bike again,I know if I trusted someone with my life for a year a bike wouldn't mean anything. |

I wonder if he will bad mouth the Buell and say it handled so bad that he wrecked one? The first time I rode my M2 I was like whooooaaaa this is different. I was coming off a Ninja600R. Then when I left my M2 for the XB12R I like really whoa... so I can see the bike reaching up and biting someone who doesn't know what to expect. |

Yes Aaron, good question, what did your buddy say caused him to respond the way he did, or perhaps over-react? I'm used to the way the XB12 behaves, but I never rode an R1, so I don't have a reference. Is the XB so responsive that it just caught him by surprise? Glad he wasn't hurt much. Sorry about the bike... |

He didn't directly blame the bike. He just said that it handled way different than his R1, and he said that it started to wouble very quickly. He did also say that he couldn't beleave that my "little" buell(04 XB9sl) had that much torque, and that much punch. THEPUP: Your right I know it will sound stupid of me to a lot of people, but If the day I get it fixed Any of my close friends want to ride I probably would let them. yeags30: Thanks for the offer but I already have one on order. "I know it will sound stupid" Not at all. Bikes come & bikes go but friends are forever. |

After the fact my buddy phill(we were at his place) was laughing about the way gonzo(the crash test dummy) and I were acting. Gonzo was more worried about my bike than his self, I was more worried about him. I kept saying "it's only a bike" he kept saying "it's only skin". Thinking about it now it must have looked a bit strange. Here I am trying to fix him up as he is trying to fix what he can on my bike. LOL Aaron
