Does anyone know of some lower bars that fit the XBS? I've got a track day coming up and want to throw some lower bars on my XB9S. My concern is drag style bars may hit the "tank". I also struggled with the Euro style bars I have on now because the factory did not give an extra millimeter for the cables or wires, so that concerns me too. Anyone with experience or recommendations? | ||

Scott- I put on some Azonic CR Lows from www.cyclegear.com They are almost 2" lower than stock with almost no pullback. They are 32" wide out of the box so I cut them down to 30". Stock bars are 27 1/2" wide. The improved ride and leverage is killer and I highly suggest them.    | ||

What issues if any did you have during installation? I have a set but have not installed them yet. Did you drill holes for the control clusters? | ||

Be careful when cutting. I didn't take into account the different bend of the bars when I measured mine and cut too much off. My clutch lever was pulling up over the the left grip, instead of to the center of it. Also, my first set of bars were aluminum, which cuts and drills real easy, but the tubing sidewalls are so thick that I couldn't fit my bar end mirrors in any more. 2nd set of bars: steel. Yes, you're going to have to drill. | ||

Drift/Spatten1, I have the same bars and there were no issues whatsoever. Luv 'em. I just did a S to R top triple tree conversion for Stealthxb too. Should be sweet when he gets it together. That is another option...Odie  | ||

I've got the Azonics too, saw 'em on B_S' bike and loved the look. First long ride with them yesterday. Huge improvement over stock. I cut a hair over 1 inch off each end. The clutch and brake levers clamp just before the bend gets severe. Any more and you're in Andreyev's shoes  thats a good point about the sidewall thickness, I had to hack up the Cat Eye bicycle mirror I'm testing out quite a bit to get it to work with the aluminum bars. My only real issue was the small plastic nubs on the inside of the controls (horn/signal + starter) that fit into holes in the stock bars, I ground them off without thinking first. The controls didn't spin at all yesterday but I might take the advice of a few here and install small screws back into the controls and drill holes in the bars to keep them solid. I wonder if there's a way to mark the bars for drilling? Maybe apply some grease or a smidgen of paint to the nub then clamp them loosely to the bars where you want them to leave a mark? Anyone try this ? | ||

Black Sunshine, Do you guys have the pro taper oversized bars? Then go to the drop down field and select the CR low bar? Thanks a million. My wife wants to go to a more aggresive riding stance/more leaned over like my 12R. She rides a 9SL. | ||

Epierce, I'm not 100% sure but I don't think you want oversize. I think you need to stick with a 7/8 bar because of the handlebar clamp. | ||

All three pictured above have the Azonic A3 CR Low bars. CycleGear.com has 'em way cheap. Quick delivery too. Metalstorm is correct, you want a 7/8 bar to work with our stock clamps. That is brilliant, lipstick | ||

I just ordered the O'neil Axonic A3 CR Lo Polished handlebars. These bars have a crossbar, and it looks like the crossbar can be detached. Tell me I ordered the right bar. Thanks Eddie | ||

Yup, those are them Epierce. Crossbar comes off by removing a few hex bolts. I forgot to add the other day that I had to lower my forks by like a hair in the triple trees so they didn't hit the bars. Nothing drastic like sliding them down to the top alignment mark. (Message edited by typeone on May 02, 2005) | ||

You all prefer these over the crossroads bars? I did have to lower my forks, but wasn't too hard to install, and they have premarked notches for your ignition and blinker assemblies. But I did have to put the bar end mirrors on, not sure how that's going to work out if I go riding some twisties and I have to get low on the bike in the corners. Guess we'll find out. | ||

Ahh yes... I remember your install thread. Any idea why you guys had such a hard time installing them? I wonder if you'd have had problems if you had just raised (or is it lower?) the forks? Either way, doesn't matter. They're on and they look Hella Sweet. I love the black. Powdercoated? Or andonized...andozized...arrrr..you know what I mean.  | ||

The biggest problem we had was the binding of the throttle cables caused by the damn horn. Relocating the horn solved it. Just took us a while to figure it all out. As for the black, Self Etching Primer and black spray paint followed by clear coat. | ||

The only thing I don't like about the crossroads, is that little locking nut that goes on the bottom of the bars closest to the dash, seems to be tearing the protective rubber coating off of my damn clutch cable. I can see the metal already. I might go to the hardware and see if I can't get a rubber coated nut to replace the metal one. | ||
