In my job I only get to leave the desk/office for a very few minutes during the lunch hour so I have to limit any "out for lunch" excursions to the places close by. There is a row of small restaurants here in the office complex (Subway, Starbucks, a Pizza joint, etc) where I work and they are about 1/2 mile or so from my office over to theirs. So... I go out and jump on the XB for a short trip through the parking lot. It turns out that the fine folks at the Pizza joint and one of the other places rinse their grease out the back door and it runs through the parking lot. The first really hot day here and we had instant slippery. I was just putzing at maybe 5-10 miles an hour along behind the buildings, leaned it over to make the turn around the corner and hit the black spot on the asphalt. Here we go...my chance to do a really cool Spastics On Ice rendition as the whole bike starts to come out from under me. I threw out the landing gear and manage to keep it from going over and then the bike slips over the OTHER direction! After about 10 seconds of seat puckering fear I manged to come out the grease spot looking like a deranged flat track racer as I exited the slide. Safe but sore from over extending my thigh and knee. So...just a simple warning to be very careful when wheeling through ANY restaurant parking lot! Nick |

Had something similar happen on an off ramp yesterday. Was raining and my mother who was in front hit some slippery spot and started to slide, she kept it up though. Well, since I saw what happened to her I just backed off the throttle and when I went over it I slid a little but kept it up. Don't know what was there but it sure shouldn't have been. Cataract - Sounds like a diesel spill. Vegas - Sounds like a health code violation. |

Dino... this is Vegas, Bro! They have bigger names to chase than the local pizzeria. But yes, I agree! |

there's a big fish house in new bedford mass at the exit i take to get home from work, every truck that leaves out of there all day leaves a big strip of fish oil all the way down the road, that's some slickery stuff. i'm glad to hear you managed to stay upright! |

Thanks Tripp. I imagine the fish oil could be nasty too. |

some companies dispose of their waste this way. crack the valve and drive! and say oops if they get stopped for some reason. |

When I was stationed in Hawaii, I found out real quick how dangerous the Hawaiian snow was... that light rainfall they get almost everyday. There's so much oil on the roads down by Waikiki it was almost a pretty site to see. If one likes rainbows that is. |
