As all whom follow our Buell friends in AMA Racing are probably wondering....Where were they at Barber???..Well,unfortunately the Electrical Gremlins took out Hal's Buell and rider Mike Ciccotto in Alabama.I'm preparing pictures and verbage between jobs here at work and will post rest of story as day goes on.Tbear and I had just returned from our first time at the Dragon and will be posting that elsewhere!!!see ya! |

so if i understand correctly, none of the contingency fund has been paid out yet as there have been no Buells to finish a Formula FX race yet. Is that correct? |

Yup. Maybe we should change it to : all the money for the first Buell to finish a race? |

well, there have only been 2 races. I didn't realize they didn't start at Daytona either. I did get a pic of the bike on the warmup lap tho: (I think that's Mike) |

That last lap of the FX race was outstanding, almost as good as the Rossi/Gibernau GP race. The Superstock and Supersport races were pretty good. The Superbike races were boring in comparison. Great riding by all three riders. Bummer about Mike. Hey Josh, how spectator friendly is Barber? It looks pretty good. (Message edited by josé_quiñones on April 27, 2005) |

Your right Jose...great race at the end...however to be fair to Hal's lets discuss WHY they didn't run.The first qualifying session(and jump in here Terry and correct me if I got facts wrong!)Mike put the bike in 5th place on the grid!!!!Then I guess they got a few minutes of dry at the end and slipped back a few rows.Hoping for a wet race cause Ciccotto is one of the Premier wet racers out there. Then the electrical problem started.Friday night Terry and his crew tore the XB down to bare bones and anaylized practically EVERY wire on the bike and couldn't find anything wrong. So they built up bike and tried a new battery and bike seemed OK on practice. When Mike got out to line and did the warm up lap the throttle would just bog, unfortunately showing that the problem was still there. The Hal's group will not be able to make it out to any of the California venues, but thats another discussion and it will be a heated one I'm sure..... Tbear hanging with the cuties as usual! This guy chose some weird colors on his bike and did the paint himself! Tommy Hayden. Greg doing interviews. View from a parking area!!! Miguel and Jake pushing each other.. A new, rather large ant hill!! Uh-Oh...looks like the wrecked vintage bike and rider are History Now!!! |

I've allways thought Eric Bostrum was one of the friendliest and approachable guys out there. Neil Hodgson seems to be just as cool and is a FIERCE competitor according to Eric! |

>Hey Josh, how spectator friendly is Barber? It looks pretty good The facility is gorgeous. Just a work of art. If you check my pics you'll see some of the track from inside the museum - since it's 4 stories of glass right against the track you get a great view of the racing *and* the vintage bikes. The roads there are great, and there was no problem getting in or out. The paddocks are large and open and easy to get to with the free trams running around the track constantly. There are also large free parking lots and the local FM channel for live track info worked great. As compact as the track is, from our vantage point we could see 90% of the track (except 2,3,7,7a,13,14) and had a great shot of all the passes on the last laps of FX. Oh, but you asked about spectating... well there aren't any seats/chairs/benches/grandstands. Not to rent, buy or borrow. If you don't know to bring your own chair you'd have been in trouble and probably misrable with the wet ground Fri/Sat. I didn't know about the chair issue but ccryder lent me one. The local Walmart did a brisk business in camp chairs.

FIRST HAL'S SPEED SHOP WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE WHOLE BAD WEB COMMUNITY FOR YOUR CONCERN AND SUPPORT OF THE BUELL'S COMPETING IN THE AMA PRO SERIES. THE TIME AND ENERGY THAT EVERY ONE HERE HAS SPENT ON PUTTING TOGETHER THE FX CONTINGENCY PROGRAM MAKES ME PROUD TO BE PART OF THIS PASSIONATE GROUP OF BUELL ENTHUSIAST. AS FOR EBEAR'S POST HE WAS PRETTY CLOSE. THURSDAY'S PROMOTER PRACTICE DAY WAS SPENT ON SETUP. {SUSPENSION-TIRE COMPOUND'S-WHEEL SIZE-FUELINJECTION} {VERY PRODUCTIVE DAY} FRIDAY OFFICIAL AMA PRACTICE SHOWED US 5th FASTEST 1:30.464 FEELING PRETTY GOOD LOOKING AT 3rd FASTEST MIGUEL DUHAMEL AT A 1:30.111. THEN THE RAIN CAME. THE FIRST 15 MIN. OF OUR QUALIFING SESSION WAS ON A WET TRACK AND THAT SAW US SITTING AT THE TOP OF THE ORDER. {THEN THE RAIN STOPPED} OUR B BIKE WAS SETUP FOR DRY CONDITIONS BUT IT HAD UNTESTED INTERNAL FORK SETTINGS. AS IT TURNED OUT THESE SETTINGS DID NOT WORK AND WE ENDED UP 14th. WITH A GOOD SETUP IN THE BOOKS ON THE A BIKE SAT.AM WARM UP WAS SPENT TRYING ALTERNATIVE CHASSIS SETTINGS. BY DOING THESE EXTRA LAPS A FAILING BATTERY WAS FOUND {WHAT LUCK} REPLACE BATTERY- CHECK ALL WIRING CLEAR ALL CODES. ALL GOOD TO GO. TIME TO RACE. HALF A LAP INTO THE WARM UP LAP A SEVER MISS FIRE ACCURED END OF STORY {DNS} SORRY TO BORE YOU WITH DETAILS. ROAD AMERICA CANT WAIT. WITH THE NEW RAM AIR THIS BUELL SHOULD ROCK. THANKS TERRY G. |

This track has everything! Tough getting close to M Jordan this day!! This rise is fun for some riders(between turn 12 and 13),seems it is a well hidden tunnel for ambulance access to inside of track.... (Message edited by ebear on April 28, 2005) |

Electrical problems. Well, I'm on the outside looking in but I was there and you can't usually hear electrical problems and I don't think that you can usually ride a bike with very noisy electrical problems back to the pits. |

Of course you can... On both counts. Ever watch F1? Even a slight mis-fire is noticeable on one cylinder. Do they have a quick shift? If so, maybe it was stuck, causing a good deal of noise? Maybe trying to constantly shift or something? I wasn't there, but I'm quite sure there are electrical problems that can get noisy... |

A SEVER MISS FIRE a very noisy electical problem in my experience. But since I was neither there nor have the money to field my own team and make those kind of command descisions, I will leave it up to them about how they want to run their race. |

On a positive note, this weekend was the first outing of the new XB based bike for Vallejo Buell in the AFM Formula 4 class.Rider Shawn Reilly took the bike from 40th place start(60 bikes in race)to a fifth place finish.Still some FI sorting to do but bike handled great and looked fantastic. After 2 days of practice and racing the belly pan was clean enough to eat out of---no oil anywhere!!!Look for more improvements!!Check out a pic here http://www.sacborg.com/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=012661 |
