Dave S can get them Pit Bull are worth the bucks - BUT the XB needs a wider-than-normal stand to grab the swingarm. You can spread the stand open if you have a really strong buddy who can pull it open a bit. I use a spool-type stand and it's much more stable than the type that lifts the arm directly. Dave S can set you straight. I think there might be somebody making sliders for the swingarm that are lathe-cut for spool-type lifts (if not, there SHOULD be!) | ||

Just for grins, I emailed Dark Horse Moto (the Badweb sponsor) - and they can and do make swingarm sliders that are cut to fit spool stands. Spool stands are much more stable than stands that lift directly on the swingarm. | ||

They indeed do have them - you can email them at their sponsor banner here via Badweb. The pic he sent me looks a bit to nice for a racebike but would be great looking for a streetbike. If you look at their pic of the swingarm sliders posted on this site, add maybe 1 inch and a groove and you'll get the picture. They IMMEDIATELY responded to my email. Always a good sign in my book! you remove them.... they have a piece of threaded rod that runs trough the axle and you just screw the two sliders on the rod. | ||

I understand the swing arm sliders are removable. Let me clarify: If the spooled sliders attached to your axle are removed, how do you use a spooled stand to raise the rear of the bike in order to remove the rear wheel? | ||

You put the stand on the front and use a jack and a block of wood under the rear swingarm... Works for me... | ||

I have the Pit Bull front and rear stands, with the adjustable rear it fits and lifts the from the swingarm no problem, it is a tight fit but it works great. Ordered them from Dave over a year ago. | ||

...as long as we are talking stands, any tips for the novice (such as myself) for getting the bike up on the rear stand? Do I start with it on the kickstand? Do I need 2 people? Any "do's and don'ts" would be appreciated! | ||

Start with the bike on the kickstand. Put the rear stand in position by the rear wheel. Then, standing at the rear of the bike, push it upright using your left hand/arm. I usually try to wrap my arm around the tail section. Now with your right hand you roll the stand into position with the swingarm supports square with the swingarm. Gradually put more pressure on the rear stand handle, while you gradually let go of the bike with your left. Now with the bike supported by the stand you can use both hands to fully lift the rear. The scary and tricky thing is getting the bike off the side stand and onto the rear stand without it tipping to the right = you're going to dump it ...  Have a buddy spot you the first few times until you get the technique down. Then you'll be fine. Edit; make sure your front wheel is not cocked to the left. straighten up the bars before you put the bike on the rear stand. Not a big no-no, but it does make the last step of lifting the bike easier, when the front of the bike stays straight rather than begin rolling to the right. I know a guy that refuses to put a bike on a stand by himself. I just plunk the stand under it, straighten it up and lift. No biggie.... I'd like a spool stand, but dont want to weld on my swingarm... what are my options? | ||

Chainsaw: What Henrik said is correct. Setting the rear stand when the bike is on the kickstand works just hunky-dory. Just DON'T HURRY (Yes, I'm shouting - I tipped my bike over in the pits putting it on the stand solo - we have no kickstands) By the way, you can get a Pit Bull adapter for a little extra that will work with both the spools and flip it over and it works under the swingarm. Best of both worlds. Bolts to the top of the stand. You can order just the top piece separately (ask Dave about it) - or if you are ordering the stand new - just get the dual-type stand. The fork stand really is terribly unstable. You should have the rear end secure BEFORE lifting from the forks. I couldn't afford a Pit Bull back when I bought my swingarm stand, so I picked up a cheapo Lockhart Phillips universal (see profile for pic) and it still works for my XB too. Just need to flip the spring to the outside to get the proper width. I think its probably about 4 years old now and still works/looks great. I use the Henrik method to lift as well. Just be patient and it becomes second nature. |
