That was awesome. I love the part where he is starting the bike and all the watter is pouring out of the tailpipe. We had a guy come to our church during the HD 100th week that had ridden a Harley around the world. It looked realy rough when he was done. I met Sjaak at Daytona bike week. Very cool dude. His bike and leathers looked like they had been around the world. I purchased some postcards from him as did some other folks. He messed up his signature on one card for a guy and pulled out a fresh set to replace them. When the guy told Sjaak that the messed up set would be fine. Sjaak said " It is not fine for me, I am Dutch". Nice guy as well. | ||

I got to meet him late last year around October, my company sponsors him and he stopped by our office when he was coming through Kansas City. He is a really nice guy and has some great stories. | ||

My 68 year old friend Bill has 280,000 miles on his '99 R1 original miles. Motor never rebuilt, only oil pump, and charging system replaced! He doesn't abuse it, but he is a pretty drn fast rider! Jet mechanic. | ||

Sjaak spoke to our motorcycle club this winter. He raises money to fund his adventures by speaking to groups along the way. He even did a track day with some locals at Heartland Park while he was here. One of the coolest moments came when someone at the meeting asked what's the farthest you've travelled in a single day. He laughed and said Americans are the only people who ask that question. Usually 50 miles in one day is great progress for him. We are a rare nation that can travel extended distances freely in our country. His longest days happen in the US, Canada and Australia. It is slow going everywhere else. A very cool guy. I think he raised a grand or more in KC. Some dealers dontated tires and Clymer donated a new GPS to guide him home. He's been on the road for over three years. | ||

does anyone know the other guy who also traveled around the world on his harley he did most of it with his girlfriend it made some list for the top 100 harleys of all time ( some magazine ) i met him on a bus in Hawaii, was fixing a boat to sail around the world in it. forgot his name | ||

That is plain craziness...on an R1? I love it though...wish I were crazy enough to try that. I just want to cross the 'ole US of A on my Buell. | ||

There's an article in the current Cycle World about a guy who rode to Dakar on a Benelli TnT.  All it took was a couple of radiator fans and Michelin Pilots. The bike survived pretty well. |
