I'd been asked to start a thread for folks to share thoughts and opinions. No problem there, normal "rules of engagement & etiquette" apply.

Have at it. . .

Buell's "Window of Opportunity"

I'm not a financial or marketing expert but I've been watching the steady devaluation of the dollar against the Euro and Yen. As a result, I expect that we'll start seeing some significant price increases on import bikes as the '06 models are introduced. (BMW dealers are already seeing of the BMW-subsidized programs such as demo/loaners being cut back.)

With this in mind, I would love to see Buell using this window of opportunity to start an aggressive marketing campaign - including television/radio commercials, ads in major newspapers; publicity pieces in newspapers such as USA Today, etc. The marketing focus would be not only be on the technical aspects of Buell bikes but on the value of buying American (given the current overseas currency situation).

I think this would result in bringing new customers into the family who may have been considering a v-twin import but aren't interested in paying a 35% "tax" in the form of dollar devaluation.

Who knows? Maybe even Buell dealers can start getting motivated to actually sell the product. (No offense to DaveS, et al - but unfortunately, there appear to be too few Buell dealers with his level of interest in sales and support - but that's a whole 'nuther topic...)

Court, what say ye????

Well, since you asked, here's my thoughts on what the "rules of engagement & etiquette" ought to be. There's nothing real original here, I think it's all been said before, but this is a good way to collect all my thoughts on the matter into one spot:

"Acceptable" posts will always be civil, reasonably non-profane, and respectful of the sensibilities of all possible readers.

"Acceptable" topics will include (but not necessarily be limited to):

> Questions/answers/tips of a technical nature concerning motorcycles in general and Buell motorcycles in particular.

> Conversations between members that are consistent (and I interpret that term loosely!) with the topic heading of the thread in which they are posted. Interesting/humorous side roads are OK if you don't follow them into the next state.

> Posts regarding events related to Buells and bikes in general.

> Pictures which relate to Buells or motorcycling in general, as long as they are not prurient or patently offensive in nature (never mind that "Wheelie gone bad" thread I started with the pic of the guy's raw butt cheeks!)

> Discussions of life events (motorcycle related or not) from which readers might derive some useful knowledge or inspiration.

"Unacceptable" posts will:

> Violate the simple rules stated on the "Getting Started" page:
When posting messages to BadWeB's discussion board, please use the same courtesy that you would show when speaking face-to-face with someone. Flames, insults, and personal attacks will not be tolerated. It's fine to disagree strongly with opinions, ideas, and facts, but always with respect for the other person. Great minds do not always think alike, and that's where the fun is! Also, note that messages express the thoughts of the writers, not the board or its custodians.

> Include offensive pictures, ie, XXX-rated nudes, graphic mutilations, etc. If you wouldn't want your boss or your ten-year-old looking at it, it doesn't belong here.

> Threaten or invite other members to physical combat.

> Advertise for commercial enterprises which are not BWB sponsors. Personal want-ads are obviously fine, but "Willy G's ••••••• Stepchild" patches are over the line.

> Engage in character assassination, whether of another member, a sponsor, or a dealer. If a poster has a problem with somebody, he should try to resolve it in private. The BWB is not a clothesline for dirty laundry.

And finally, no "acceptable" post will ever include the words, "...remind me to tell you..."
