I've been kind of dreading having to take my bike into the dealership. Had some problems with the closest dealer and I was informed that the next closest dealer isn't much better. My third choice is almost 100 miles away. Really don't want to have to make that trip if I don't have to. Anyway, I saw from looking through the service manual that at least one special tool is needed. I've got basic mechanical skills. The most complex think I've probably done is rebuild a carb when I was a teenager and swap out the suspension parts on my car on a near yearly basis. Should I take a chance or leave it up to the pros? I'm also going to need the tps reset so I'm going to need to take the bike to the shop regardless for that at the very least. | ||

You need a couple special tools and if you are not a tech it may be extra difficult. I have had mine down a couple times and had to fabricate a spring compressor and a seal driver. Remember, if you mess these up you can crash and that is not cool. IF you lived closer to ATL I could hook you up or if you want to do it pm me and I can give you some more detailed instruction. Also if you want to stiffen them up cheap just put in a heavier fork oil. | ||

There are some very good Showa suspension rebuilders out there. If this is a warranty repair and you want it covered under warranty then the dealer is the only game in town. If you don't mind paying or it's not a warranty issue send the forks out. No fuss, no muss, you will get a much better job than the dealer could do and if you want, the good ones out there can do any mod you would want. | ||

Well, wish me well. I ended up taking the bike back to the same dealer. This time, the bike will not leave their shop until I am satisfied that the repair work was done properly. Won't know for about 9-10 days unless they manage to get to it sooner. |
