No damage done, so I can laugh about it now. But this is about the most stupid thing I've done. I reconnected the TFI today (it was running TOO hot, fan coming on while cruising) and when I have the airbox and filter off I always put a piece of cloth in the stack. This time I couldn't find a cloth so I used some toilet paper.... Put the airfilter back on, checked the engine light in case I had done something wrong and fired her up. Nice idle so I turn it off and put everything back together. I jump in my suit and take off ... for 10 meters. Loud sputters and idle goes up real high and then the engine dies. Kinda confused, I check the throttle cables and start her again. Since I could smell the gas I figured I had the TFI too rich so I open the throttle half way ... it starts but idles very high and I hear her running on one cylinder. I shut it down immediately and walk her home. By now I'm really troubled and my heart is pounding in my chest (I'm easily scared) ... I check the TFI ... and I'm thinking. I can smell the gas really good and then fear grips me ... THE TOILET PAPER!! Oh no! I disassemble the airbox again and there it is. Wrapped around the throttle valve drenched with fuel and luckily still in one piece. Phew .... | ||

I tried to crank mine with masking tape over the stack. I remembered it when I heard the big sucking sound. lol | ||

I once left my feeler gauges inside the valve cover of my 1955 Ford when I was doing a valve adjustment. It took me a long time to figure out where they were. | ||

Hey Ingemar, I feel for you man! Did the same thing myself, except with a clean rag...although, I hadn't got all dressed up to go for a ride (heh, heh)...sometimes we do things that are SO STUPID, it makes you wonder why humans run the planet...some would say "into the ground"... | ||

The most important thing left out of this post is what brand was that TP? I need something that can take the rigors of my rear exit after eating some garlic habanero hot sauce! Remember those cheap Big Chief writing tablets? They had wood chunks in them. You would get splinters running your hand across a sheet of paper. My old job, in a cost saving move, replaced the two ply TP with 1-ply and then later with wax paper. What a mess! | ||

lol, Don't feel bad, we've all done dumb ••• stuff like that. I once forgot to replace the drain plug & started refilling the oil one of my older Porsches. Then there was the oil filter gasket that stuck to my daughter's block and messed up the new gasket to the point where all the oil came out. Then there was the time where I left the crescent wrench on the block of my 64 GTO which fell into the fan & went through the radiator. Then there was the time I mixed up ft-lbs with in-lbs and snapped a bolt off. Then there was the time... I better stop, I'm starting to ramble like Court! | ||

I have a plug to close up the exhaust for when we trailer the bikes to the track in the rain. Big fat orange thing with a red and white "Remove before starting" tag hanging from it. Went to go out for the first session of the day, started the bike - it sounded really quiet and wouldn't really pull. Died after 30 feet. I was freaking out 'cause I didn't want to miss the session, so I pushed the bike back to our pit for some mechanical advice from my track buddies. You guessed it - plug still in the exhaust. dude, you've got me worried, I recharged my K/N filter last weekend and don't remember taking the paper towel out of the stack....I rode 387 miles since then and nothing out of the ordinary...I'm sure I'd get symptoms such as yours if it was left in,right? | ||

I left the oil filler cap off my car, got about 5 blocks before it started smokin' bad! I had oil every where. | ||

Grrrrrrrrr.....I'm starting to ramble like Court! <G> >>>lol, Don't feel bad, we've all done dumb ••• stuff like that. My personal effort in Darwinism, involved changing the oil in a D-8 Caterpillar tractor. I removed the drain plug, drained the old oil, removed the cut off 55 gallon drums of waste oil, put the 3 cases of gallon cans up on the track, crawled up and started pouring them into the 4" pipe into the crankcase. I was on about the 16th gallon when I heard the laughter. There was no need to look any further than the huge 4" plug sitting next to me. There...short and to the point. | ||

i rebuilt my xr50 motor and threw in the spark plug for my yz250f. a few kicks later.... just a new piston and head. | ||

I dropped a bolt into the transmission of a Cat 769 C truck once. My boss was pretty mad. He was laughing by the time I also dropped the magnet I was using to get the bolt out. oops. (I got them both out eventually). And I hate remembering this but once I drove off in a big water truck, with the fire hose still attached. I had just got done changing the oil on one of my bikes, put all the tools away and got ready to go for a ride. Got on the bike and went to take off and nothing the engine just revd, then remembered the bike was still up on it's lift. JUST KIDDING thought i'd add some laughter | ||

The dealership I work at sells Bentley's and one of the guys didn't set it on the saftey locks over night on the lift. Well the next morning it was on its roof. I got to get the picture from the him at work. Also put head gaskets on upsidedown on a minivan. Had to do it over for the bubble.  |
