So how low does your fuel level have to be before you switch to reserve?? I see fuel in the tank but it is not over the top of the tunnel but lower than the sides of the tunnel. Just curious!! Thanks |

On my M2 I cut down the tube above the petcock some, probably a bit too much. It used to still have a gallon or more left when I hit reserve, now it's waaaaaaaaaaaaay less (might have to add some tube back now, oops) . |

On the highway, I can get 200-220 miles before I have to go on reserve on my 2k M2. |

I feel lucky. I'm getting around 210 miles on my 98 before having to go to reserve. Are you guys just running around wide open all the time or what? |

Around 175 miles I think, maybe a little more. 2001 M2, 48 slow jet, 2 1\2 turns on the screw, 195 main, aftermarket intake and exhaust. Ridden sanely most of the time. |

I get about 150 before going on reserve, but I routinely crack the throttle to feel that torque, and have an 84" kit...maybe I will get better mileage when I commute this summer.

Cyclonemick:2000M2,modified motor.42 Makuni.I get between 160-200 miles depending on how im riding the bike.My reserve is 1 gallon or better.I bought a dyno jet kit before my Makuni, took it back out because I couldnt get it to work like the claims, ran better with out it.At highway speeds 70 ish,you should be getting 165+ on 4 gallons of gas. |

you guys get a warning from your bike when its time to switch to reserve?!?! mine just dies, no warning, nothing, did it today on I-4 at 80mph. Have to pull off the Highway, slow down enough to shift to neutral, set the petcock to reserve, thumb the start, shift into gear and im off

two wheel: you shouldn't have to stop... as your bike is dying just reach down, flip the lever, and keep moving! it never takes more than a second or two for the fuel to reach the carb, once it's there the bike comes to life and you're good... even as slow as 30mph the bike has enough momentum to keep moving until the fuel starts flowing. mick: it's up to $3.00 here in san francisco! now, about that 200+ miles per tank... milage for me (Y2K MaDeuce) is wildly variable depending on headwinds and the enthusiasm of the operator -- I usually manage to squeeze about 150 mikes before reserve, but I, like Mike, cut the tube on the petcock a bit no such thing as a stoopid question, though there ARE stupid people ;-} |

Fuel range was near the top of the list of things I miss about my tuber. My M2 would routinely pull 150 miles before hitting reserve, and that was in town without trying to fill it all the way up. On the trip to Daytona in '02 my M2 pulled just a little over 200 miles before hitting reserve. The Firebolt isn't anywhere near that. The most I've ever seen before reserve was around 140 miles, the least being about 115. Mike L. '04 XB12R |

My FI bike has no reserve but it does have a low fuel light. I operate under the premise that the only time I have to much fuel is when the bike is on fire so I gas up long before the low fuel light comes on, around 125 miles or so. Never went more than 150 miles before fueling. Why anyone would try to burn the last fume before refueling is beyond me. |

There is no "as your dying"... it just dies, no warning, just shuts off. At that point im slowing down to the point that i cant concentrate on finding the petcock and worrying about the guy behind me coming up on me really fast..... just easier to pull off the side of the road. besides cant really set the tank to reserve and hold in the clutch at the same time.

Twowheeldream when it dies forget the clutch. you need to set on the bike and make the fuel petcock part of the ( I NEED TO KNOW WHERE AND HOW TO USE ) just like the brakes horn and clutch because some day you will be on a narrow road with a cager on your 6 no sholder and it will quit . it dosen't hurt a thing to switch to reserve going down that empty road just to get used to it. after all i would be willing to bet that you don't need to look for the starter button. Sorry for the soap box I will climb down now . Be safe. Wayne in Nashville. |
