Riding on down the road and engine feels like it is out of fuel, pull over and pop the cap to look inside and we have lots of gas. Restart and ride off normally. This has happened a couple of times the last time I took a 2 hour road trip. Happened a couple of months ago when I was riding all day. Any thoughts? |

Hmmmm, hadn't really thought of something that simple. Engine didn't always quit and sometimes fuel cap was not removed. |

I had the same thing happen after a lowside. Gas had gooed up the line with some dirt that had gotten in there. So basically the vent hose for your tank is pluged. Take hose off fuel tank, blow out gunk and you should be set. If that doesn;t cure it make sure your vent in the tank is OK. |

You can't get vapor lock with a gravity fed system like on an M2. Vapor lock only occurs when you try to suck fuel with a pump, the fuel's hot, and it boils under suction forming a vapor. Most gas pumps can't pump vapor, only liquid. I think Spiderman's on the right track. Wasn't there a vent hose recall for these bikes? |

Also check the "other end" of the spark plug wires where the go into the coil. Mine were seated with just the rubber boot, and needed to be snapped back down occasssionally. |

Try clipping the Ty-wrap holding the vent hose on at the filler cap. If the problem goes away, most likely a plugged/pinched vent line. If not, may be a bad vent valve. |

Check the other end of the vent tube for blockage, lots of little critters like to crawl into dark holes over the winter. Pull the tube off the tank and blow into it to see if it's plugged. Also, as weird as it sounds, check your sidestand safety switch. Trust me on this one, sometimes when they go it emulates a fuel problem. |

The very same thing happened to my 2000 M2. The culprit? Clogged screen in the petcock. I had my tank repainted and some debris got into it at the paint shop. |

...check your sidestand safety switch. Trust me on this one, sometimes when they go it emulates a fuel problem. Oh, yeah. The same thing also happened to me before the debris in the tank episode. Lose the damn switch if you haven't already. |

Dj, That reminds me, the inlet tube on my petcock worked itself up somehow and was restricting fuel flow at the top of the screen holder. I wanted to trim it back some anyway. Forgot about that little episode of irregular running. |
