Anyone recall their oil changes before 5k miles? Mine seemed to have more than the necessary amount of metal shards attached to the magnetic drain plug on the oil and transmission. Wondering if this is fairly normal or if I should be worrying. |

fairly normal, unless your talking about small chunks. Even at 18000 I still check the oil with a coffee filter after changing it. |

its also the cam gears and oil pump gears as well as the rings, pistons and cylinders since he was also talking about the engine oil plug. |

frequent oil changes during break-in are a good idea. |

Shards in the primary/trannie are not unusual. Shards in the oil tank could be a concern. frequent oil changes during break-in are a good idea. I hear this often, but why? |

I would say to get rid of the shards/garbage that has found its way into the oil. |

Change your oil at the first 500 miles and at 3000 miles after and you will be fine |

I just changed mine for the first time at 560 miles last night. I found a bunch of shavings on the tranny plug, none on the crankcase plug. I didnt strain the engine oil to see what it had in it, but I can tell you it sure looked nasty. |

At 2k my tranny plug looked like one of those art things with the big magnet and all of the little pieces of metal that you make shapes with. I'm glad to hear that it is "normal". |
