Okay I have a City X and everything is real cool right now. But now that it's broken in and I've become a better rider it's time for...

MORE POWER!

I cannot find a real description of Buell's Race Kit. I know that some people removed the ICM after riding with it? So what's the real scoop? Is it worth the $600 plus labor? What can I expect other than more noise (hey loud pipes save lives) and "popping"?

Many thanks!

Mike...may I suggest an Odie Special Opps Pipe? Purchase one from Stone Mountain H-D/Buell a BadWeB sponsor. Talk with Clown (Cameron). Most of the 3%ers run those pipes. Best bang for your buck (IMO).

The race kit works. It's a turn key, OEM developed/produced item. Fit and finish are factory. You can't go wrong and the bike runs real good.
Personally I would install the race filter and ECM and use a Drummer muffler. The Drummer provides better torque/HP response across the entire rev range than the race muffler. Either option costs about the same. Again, well worth it.

Buy the Buell Race Kit. It's a set it and forget it thing. Who do you think has more dyno time?
Loud pipes save lives? That's one school of thought, another is "When I was little, my Mommy didn't pay enough attention to me so now I want every one else to pay attention to me"
Ask anyone who doesn't ride or doesn't care for motorcycles one way or another what they think about loud bikes as one goes by at that moment. See how quickly they absolutely don't like bikes now. OOOOOOPPPPPPPPPS. Made another enemy!

No worries Aldaytona. I'm much harder to off than that!

I wouldn't mind the bike being louder if only because when I'm on the highway I want the cagers to know that I am coming up on them or trying to pass. So many times I wonder if the moron on the cell phone even knows I'm there and honestly that's the one thing that scares the crap out of me... being side swipped by some idiot.

I made mine louder because that sewing machine sound from the stock muffler was driving me nuts. Not to mention my parents both have screaming eagle on their HD's and here I am with an HD motor bike that couldn't compete sound wise. Blah.

I just installed the Special O.P.S on my new 12S, holy crap does it sound mean! Not sure if I gained any real power, no dyno time yet, but i wasn't overly concerned about more HP just sound mainly. the 12 has plenty of grunt for me right now. With Odies pipe a K&N and de-snorkeled she is running smoooov. Definitely no loss anywhwere. TFI is going on next.

If it's noise your after....you can just "play around" with the stock pipe to get that.

I agree with cataract. I called it the angry lawnmower sound. My family even wondered what the heck was wrong with the bike due to the stock pipe. I love my Jardine.

I have the Jardine, Race ECM & Custom airbox/filter. Im not worried about sound, just saving weight and mid to top end power. I have heard the Special Ops muffler on an XB12 very muscular sound and nice welds.

Are you saying, you don't like the way a Harley
sounds?
Every person I have ever known that bought a Harley,
changed the exhaust to make it loud.

I like the sound of drag pipes on a Harley.
I also like putting duals and headers on a small
block V8.
All the gear heads I've ever known do.
Only people I've met that liked a quiet bike
were BMW owners.

I like it loud , you can call me a red neck, but I ain't alone!

I bet you'd be hard pressed to find a hand full
of BadWebers that haven't changed their pipe
or have plans to do so.

If your looking for the best all around performance,
I suggest a Drummer.

I have a couple of Harley Davidson bikes in my garage at this moment as well, I do like the way they sound, one has SE tapered slip ons and one has a White Bros 2 into 1 (with the end cap on, thank you). A good combination of sound and performance, NOT LOUD.
I do not like straight pipes as you have probably guessed by now. I don't see the merit in them except if you want to annoy others.
I do however get some enjoyment listening to people crying about getting stopped by the police because of them and then getting busted for all their other illegal equipment as well. The "LOOK AT ME" thing works both ways.

I never cared for straight pipes to much. But, having a bit of noise that sounds mean is nice. That race kit hoped up the bike a good amount but also made it sound a hell of a lot better than the jap. ones. IMHO

Hogs did you get your combo figured out.
I bet all you bikes are quiet.

Yohinan just put a D&D on his bike, he says it,s
louder than the loud Drummer. He also said
he didn't notice any big difference in performance over the the race pipe.
I'm sure will be riding together again soon and I'll
get to hear it.
He's very happy with the way it sounds.
He ain't scared to turn it loose, so we'll
find out how it performs.

We both saw 130 together this weekend.

Diablobrian, I don't have pics handy but here are some sounds clips of my stock 12 can vs. Special O.P.S for you. You'll hear a little bit of popping, TFI is next although it pops very little. Sounds crazy badass. Def. worth the dough.

Ask in the Sponsor/Stone Mountain HD-Buell/ thread and I bet Odie can hook you up with snaps.

Typeone, that's awesome to be able to hear the difference hear on the internet, pretty cool. I noticed the popping as well. I just put a Latus on my bike last night and the open airbox conversion kit, waiting for my TFI to arrive tomorrow, then going to try it all out. But I love the sound of my Latus, makes it sound lean and mean. Cool sound clips man, late.

This is what I notice on the gauge, the bigger the load, the richer it runs.
A variance of about 0.2:1 between 3rd and 4th gear runs. The bike also
shows more consistent runs when I’ve been running it hard.
If I’m just poking along for a while and then go wot, it reads a little
richer. When your on the dyno your checking back to back wot runs.
This is when I usually pay most attention to the gauge.
I think I’ll start looking for a temp gauge also.
That’s something I’d like to have when I start running the nitrous.

Traffic around here is bad, so it’s hard to do any hard riding.
Makes me want to move, it’s getting harder to find places to ride.
