I an '04 XB12R and am trying to install a HyperPro Damper. I am having problems getting the bracket aligned with the top mount. Has anyone installed this damper and have they had any problems? What do I need to do with the wiring harness as it seems to be interfering with the bracket? |

Are you referring to the Innovation (Kosco Formula Extreme XB)damper which uses the HyperPro as the damper body? If so I have a lot of experience. It is not an easy job. I ended up notching the plastic bracket under the fairing and bending the horn bracket down at an angle. Then I separated the wiring harness into three electrical tape wrapped harness just above the damper and ran then above the horn. I drilled holes in the ribs on the fairing bracket and bolted down some nylon wire loom loops to keep the harness from rubbing on the horn or chaffing. I also had to drill a new hole for the wiring restrain for the headlight relay wires (I think that was what it was). Then I had to squish down the metal harness loop on the left side of the steering head. Be careful there as you can easily crush your throttle cables. I ran a couple of tie-wraps to hold my (new) throttle cables mid way up the forked bracket on the left side of the steering head. If you slip the tie wraps behind the bracket before you tighten it down it works out well. Also you will need to file down the bottom allen head so it doesn't contact the fork tube on full lock (you don't want to ding the slider). Also you will need to remove the ground wire from the bottom of the steering head. I ran mine up to the nut (throttle side of the top bolt) and used a dremel to grind off the paint on the frame bracket and then inserted a star washer between the damper u-bracket and the frame to promote a good ground. Whew! The end result was worth it, but like they say, it is intended for race only. Now I hope this answered your question or like Rosanne Rosanna-Danna says--Nevverr Mind! xbolt12 |

XBolt - Thanks for the response. I am not sure if I have the Innovation bracket. I purchased this from Hal's so I guess I need to call them on this problem. I am hoping that I do not have what it is intended for race only as I specified that I will be using this on the street. |

I will get some once I have it installed. I was also wondering if anyone else had any pics of this installation as this might also help me out. |

Mstarbird, After talking to Rich Cronrath (Kosco Team Manager), I would say the reason they (not Hals) promote the damper as race only is because they are not set up to take a bunch of calls and deal with customer issues. It certainly has nothing to do with the performance. That said, they work with race bikes that don't have the same wiring harness or triple clamps, but they do have a number on the street. It may be possible to run it without the harness changes, but I was concerned with clearance. All said though this part was what the Kosco team runs. I do not know that Hals runs the same part and I would question it since they are competitors. Go to racingmotorcycles.com and they have a picture of it (what I have). xbolt12 |

xbolt - This is the same setup that Hal’s sold me and I definitely do have a problem with the clearance of the wiring harness and the bottom of the triple clamps. One of the biggest problems that I have is trying to get the bottom bolt to align up. It looks like it is off by about 1/4" and I do not know how to get it to align. Also, would there be any problems if the wiring harness were in contact with the damper bracket? Thanks for all of the help. I am currently trying to get the bike back together with a full fairing from Hal’s and some other mods. So far this is the only major problem that I am having. |
