Ok, I have an XB9SX. Traveling down the interstate at around 80-85mph which puts the rpms between 4000-4500. I get to 98 miles on the tank and the fuel light comes on. Is this normal? I have the race kit on my bike and city riding nets me 120 miles on a tank normally. If this is normal then this is an example of why we need a 6th gear just for highway riding. |

I've had the same thing happen on my XB9R. Got about 100 miles before reserve light came on. I also have the race ecm but I need to take it and have it put on the computer to verify the TPS and such as I don't think the guy that owned it previously had any of that done. |

Part of the problem with the low fuel light is that its a heated wire and not a float. Depending on conditions, the light will not be consistant. Warm or hot conditions can trigger it early, cold conditions can trigger it later. What you need to do is pay attention to how much fuel you put in at the fill up. I set my trip meter and know I average 50mpg as long as I keep it below 90. So on hot days when it comes on at 90-95mile mark, I know I have atleast 40miles before I run out hit my stress to find a station point. On cold days I know if my tripmeter hits 120miles with no fuel light I need to start looking because it is coming on any second and I will get 25miles before its empty. Both of those examples are based on actual experience. Both times fill up when I did stop was 3.4 gallons. When it came on early I went just over 45 miles and was sweating it. The second time, I ran out at just over 25 miles on reserve, but worked out to just over 150miles on the trip meter. |

I agree - ignore the light - set the tripmeter and watch for 120. Unless you're in stop-and-go 100%, you will ALWAYS make 120 miles (just not much farther) |

I do notice that it comes on at 2.8 gallons each time. Take it this is normal also? BTW, normally I'm at 120 miles with 2.8 gallons used. |
