I have a question that I hope someone can answer. While driving my XB9SX to work, I have been getting black particles on the right leg ONLY of my pants below the knee. I can't tell if it is oil or something else. To further explain, these are very small black speckles with some larger ones mixed in. Most of it comes out in the laundry but not all. I wear khakis so it is very easy to see at work. Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be? |

Poor colour choice? Get something to wear over your khakis. Wally World sells these waterproofish nylon pants. They're black. |

I would almost wager that you have a rocker cover leaking. That's how I found the first sign of mine leaking! |

Dudes, it is probably just brake pad particles. Only on the right side. That is the side of the front brake. D |

If the bike is new there is a small amount of "particles" that comes off the new belt. Another option, between the front sprocket cover and engine there is an oil line that connects to a 90 degree fitting, check if its wet around that area. Due to the angle that line goes the elbow fitting my not be tight, if it is wet use a lil more teflon tape or paste and reinstall but do not over tighten. Maybe..... If the black particles are not liquid then your more than likely getting them from the belt. That's normal. Mine did the same thing for about 400 miles. |

I carry my slacks in my backpack and wear Draggin jeans and boots when I ride. I keep a pair of dress shoes at work and change into my slacks when I get there. I've laid a bike down at around 35mhp and the slide went wore through my 501 jeans. I would be afraid to lay a bike down with slacks, might as well be wearing shorts. |

Can't believe you guys dont wear leathers or a cordura alternative over there. A slide in 501s...makes me feel sick just thinking about it! |

The Draggin Jeans have a Kevlar inserts in the butt and knees. You can also order knee pads that fit the jeans. I've heard testimonials from people that have slid going over 90mph and not break through the Kevlar. American Sport Bike sells them and they’re made in the good ol’ U.S.A. I like them because there lighter then other riding gear and breath better than leather on hot days. |

i have 4k miles on my bike and have the same problem when wearing khakis to work. Maybe the break dust is possible since it is common between bikes. |

I got a pair of Draggin Jeans for Christmas with the knee pads. The pads are little awkward to use; they attach to the inside of the pants with velcro that sticks to the knee Kevlar material. For normal commuting, I leave them out, but if I'm going for any distance I put them in. The DJ's are a neat alternative to full cordura or leather pants. Come to think of it, they could probably make something similar in khaki if there were enough demand. |

Take them off. If squids can ride around in tank tops, I'm sure riding pantsless can't be too bad. |

Your ruining them because your creaming your jeans everytime you ride that thing. |

Anonymous - Well that is a given. That is why I was specific to the right leg below the knee. I already knew about the cause of that "problem". Thanks for your help everyone. After all of these responses, I think it is probably the belt or the front brake. I have about 1,300 miles on it. There is no oil on the motor and I can't see the black speckles on anything else. Maybe it will pass in time. |
