Hi guys, Listen, I have a new Firebolt 12R and have not completed the prerequisite 500 mile break in period-got 200 to go! Would you guys advice against changing to a Jardine until after the break in 500 mi.? Thanks. |

Well, thanks for the advice. The dealer thought it would be better to wait. As to why the Jardine? Well it's purely economics my friend. I just can't shell out six hundred bones for a D&D right now. I am getting the Jardine for $226 delivered from pipecity.com |

Hey Redtail, I agree with the dealer, wait until after the breakin so if the bike starts to run funny or something else happens, it will be covered under warranty which the pipe could void. Besides, let the motor and ECM stabilize during the breakin period, then you can add the pipe which will cause another round of adjustment (mostly by the ECM for fuel mixture). BTW, 100% breakin is more like 5K miles with H-D regular oil, if you really want to let the parts get to know each other before introducing a new neighbor :-) |

Yeah, mine wasn't really broken in it seemed until about 8K. I switched to M1 synth at about 3K. |

Well thanks for the input guys. I'm just getting a consensus from as many people as possible. I'm sure you can all relate with where I'm at right now. I LOVE my new bike yet I cannot wait to be rid of the "lawnmower" sound. I'm not really that concerned with more power cause she's definitely got a lot of that as is. I just want to bring out the beast hidden within if y'all know what I mean. |

Red, Once you get past 500, change to a K&N , remove the snorkel, open her up and you won't get any lawn mower sound then. |

Personally I go slow in making mods on a new bike. I would start with the Intake side of things (K&N filter and de-snorkel) because the exhaust on the 12 is pretty good performance wise. A pipe will make it better but it is better than most stock exhausts I have seen though. I would wait until after at least 1000 miles before really opening up the airflow path and doing other mods. |

Unless your mods will lean the bike out or run it too rich I don't see any reason to wait for "break in". If your mods were to lean the bike out I might be concerned about the engine running too hot before it is broken in, but I can't see why changing the pipe would be an issue now. |

the dealer will sell you the bike with the buell race kit installed right off the floor,so what's the difference??? i just got my cityx with the jardine, race ecm,k&n filter and they told me everything will be fine! i don't think they would let you ride away on a new bike if they thought it wasn't right for the bike...just my thoughts |

It's a rubber tube that passes through the left side of the frame under the airbox. Do NOT get it confused with the Velocity Stack, which is in the center . |

The race kit should have the Race ECM on it as well which gives more fuel along with more air...the lean running situation is what you want to avoid in all cases whenever possible. |

My sage dealer, advised against the race kit until after the breakin. He suggested it would be to tempting to gun it. As if it wasnt hard enough to do the breakin routine ,stock! |
