sigh.... this sucks. CityX is a 2 weeks old, but won't start. It makes loud clicking noises but won't turn over. Had it jumped once, seemed ok that day (started a couple of times), went away for weekend leaving it on battery tender, came back and it won't start again. Battery tender sits on solid red, I don't think I've ever seen it go to green (sorta noticed that out of the corner of my eye, but figured I wasn't giving it enough time) So... I live 43 miles from dealership... like I said this sucks. 1) Do you think it's just a bad battery? (bike was built in August) or something more dreadful. 2) Do you think dealership should do a pickup of the bike for free?... I mean jeez, it is just a lousy 2 weeks old. | ||

Could be as simple as a loose connection. Check to make sure the cables are clean and tight. The dealership should come pick it up from you. | ||

Well I did check the connections, they are very tight. I did fail to mention that I hooked up an additional lead for my heated clothing (that I haven't used), but can't imagine how that's involved. Unless having the battery tender lead that came with the bike and the gerbing lead is just too thick or somehow affects the contact. Certainly never caused a problem on my SV. hmm... | ||

When I bought my XB9s it came with a bad battery and wouldn't start. The dealer overnighted me a new one, never had another problem. | ||

Damn I hope that's all it is. I removed the extra gerbing lead, charged it up again (battery tender went to green), it started and I took it for a ride. Came back home, tried to restart it and same problem, loud clicking noise and won't turn over. I'll call dealership tomorrow and see what they say. | ||

Sounds like a dead bat. Call the dealer and see if they can get one to you or you can check your local Wal Mart for one that might work. Just make certain it's a maintenance free one. DO NOT GET A BATTERY THAT USES ACID!!!! | ||

battery. Mine had the same problem, i just bought a new battery and all is well again. | ||

Ya a lot of people have had their batteries go bad after a few months, take it back to the dealer and they should put a new one in for you. | ||

Just thought I'd chime in. My battery was several months older than the bike (check the battery date vis the punchouts) and as of this April, was 3 years old. Load testing it with a VOM, found the voltage dipped into the 9v+ region while cranking the motor. Replaced it with a new battery (a plus is they're cheaper than a few years ago--only $66!) and no more "hard starting" problem. | ||

Dealer was cool so far (first experience with them). They suspect it's simply the battery too. Says they see this problem a lot with new bikes because they use the batteries to pull the bikes in and out of the shop a lot (I presume that means parking lot to shop, shop to parking lot over and over and over... since they don't have room) They will be picking it up (43 miles away) and checking it out, though it may be a while before the pickup happens. Can't ask for more than that. | ||

Not wanting to muddy the waters here.. But it could also be a stator problem. My wife just went through it with her Sporty. Loose wire at the stator kept the battery from charging, hence dead battery. The dealer repaired the loose connection and tossed in a new battery to boot. She's been good to go since. | ||

Well after waiting 5 days to get the bike picked up at my house, and 2 days of it being at the shop, they finally checked it out and said the starter is bad (not the battery, it's fully charged). Something about a some rod not coming our far enough? Anybody know what that means? So now it's another 3 days for part if I'm lucky, or 7-10 days if I'm not. So a 2 week old bike that will be in the shop longer than I have owned it. It's my first Buell, and it's not putting a good taste in my mouth. Hope it's just a fluke. The good news is they claim to know what the problem is, and if they are right, they will fix it. Let's see if that ends up being the case. When it's running again I presume I will forget all about how long it has taken. | ||
