I use a two piece Vanson suit that zips together front and rear. I always wear gloves, helmet, jacket, and jeans when running errands or short drive to work (1 mi). I will sometimes ride a back road over lunch, but I always feel somewhat naked and try to keep the lean angle down some. On weekends I always use full gear. It's hot even with vented gear (next time I'll buy white instead of black), but it is a lot better than getting skin grafts.
I'll probably get some draggin jeans for the trips where leather pants with sliders are a bit much as soon as I have a little extra money.

I don't leave home without it.
I was in the local Harley-Davidson shop once to test ride a bike (neat HD Night Train being awarded to David somebody, a pitcher for the Yankees, from Fossil wathc company). When I arrived a couple of the locals "biker dudes" quipped, "you look like you're dressed for winter".
I responed....."Nope, I always dress for fall".
I am trying to recall the last time I had a "planned" crash. Here in New York City the odds are better than ever that when and if it does happen, it'll be the work of another idiot. I am unwilling to be that they;ll call or drop me an e-mail that they intend to take me out on the BQE that day and tell me to dress for it.

Was wondering if anyone had any experience with chaps. Do they work, or just look pretty? |

Kinda off the subject here. but does anyone here know about dying leathers? I have a joe rocket blaster jacket that matched my old bike, I love the jacket but unless my new xb will be yellow it will look stupid with any other color. Anyone know if I can dye the yellow parts black? any input would be great, I figure lots of you guys have been through multiple bikes through the years
and try to keep the same gear |

Chaps keep you warm, but offer limited crash protection, if you ride with chaps, wear 2 leather wallets. LOL |

I just bought some leather overpants. Kinda like chaps, but your *ss is covered also. They zip all the way up the sides of both legs for easy removal at stops. You can even unzip them a little bit at the top for some venting. |

Chaps will protect you quite a bit. Unless you have experienced it or seen it first hand than to comment otherwise its kinda foolish.
My wife & I had our accident with the HD coming back from the crud run in Oct of 02. We had on our leather jackets, gloves & helmets & we also had chaps on. I dont know about everyone but most people on the street tend to tumble & not slide on their arse like a racer does. Our chaps held up great & this was froma 55mph fall in a curve covered in diesel fuel. No marks on our bodies at all. Quite a few stress marks in the chaps but overall they performed at 100%. |

I do something a little weird but it works for me. I wear a two piece AGV suit, Sidi boots and a back protector whenever I ride, but sometimes I ride places where I stop and eat or something with friends or family, and while I dont think full leathers is weird at all on a bike, it can look pretty stupid at a restaurant. So over my leather pants I throw on a pair of loose fitting normal pants, and nobody is the wiser. If I am just riding to ride I just wear my leathers though. |

I always wear leathers. I have a Dainesse Tribal jacket I wear while commuting. It's comfortable, yet has enough room to put a sweatshirt underneath.
For colder weather I have a jacket I had made for me in Korea (Mr Kim's World Leather Shop?)
Has a light liner inside. I had them put two zippers in for attaching to pants with a wrap around zipper and a straight zipper for attaching to pants like V-pilot pants.
For go-fast rides I wear the V-pilots zipped to the black Korean jacket. Looks slightly less goofy than full leathers when we stop to eat.
I wear a set of one piece Z-Custom leathers for the track. Pretty much the only track time I do these days is a few passes at the local drag strip. The Buell may wander through at 117 mph, but a pass on the racketship 'Busa trips the lights at 145 mph. A tank slapper and get off at that speed kind of demands a one piece suit (full leathers and a licence required for sub 10 second runs anyway).
Buy something you love, even if you have to save up for it. That way you'll wear it all the time. |

LOL. Who on earth would know about Osan's most famous shoping district? That guy can copy anything. Yes I have his card, and Yes he is going to make me a set of leathers this summer. He made my lightweight jacket. Unfortunately someone at the hospital liked it more than me and it walked away while I was there for my son's birth.
The shop that made my black jacket was in Seoul, Just down the street from The Nashville Club.

Spent a short remote tour at Osan '91-'92.
Former tool box toting mech(pointy head) for the AF(C-130E/MC-130E/MH-53J).
What a wonderful place to go shopping. Just bring your pics and wait. Almost like taking a polaroid picture. Aim, shoot, wait for it to appear. Still have my riding jacket from that time. Just recently the die has started fading in spots. Not one seam has let go and just had a zipper replaced a short while back.
Wouldn't mind a trip back over and do some shopping again. So many bars and way to much time to......combat bottles of soju and 7. What memories that will kill. |
