2 men held in 150-mph chase Motorcycles were in pack of 10, police say BY ALEX FRIEDRICH St. Paul Pioneer Press State Patrol officers arrested a pair of bikers they say led them on a chase along Interstate 494 Tuesday night at speeds of up to 150 mph. The arrests come just months after the infamous case of a 20-year-old Stillwater motorcyclist pleaded guilty after being ticketed for allegedly pushing 205 mph on his motorcycle. Adam Blomquist, 27, and Christian Laddusaw, 29, led Minnesota state troopers on a 15-minute pursuit that ended in Washington County, patrol officials said Wednesday. Blomquist of Minneapolis and Laddusaw of Golden Valley were held without bail Wednesday in the Washington County jail. Patrol officials say the county attorney's office will determine whether charges will be filed. The two were part of a pack of 10 motorcyclists that police reported speeding eastbound on I-494 near Pilot Knob Road at more than 130 mph, the patrol said. Troopers joined the pursuit at U.S. 52 in Inver Grove Heights at 11:12 p.m., and focused on the first pair to pass them. The rest of the motorcyclists dispersed. At I-494 and Lake Road in Woodbury, Blomquist tried to hide from his pursuers by turning off the lights and ignition of his 2003 Yamaha 750cc as he coasted along the exit ramp, State Patrol officials said. Blomquist was spotted and arrested, the patrol said. Troopers followed Laddusaw north on I-494, where troopers clocked him by radar at 145 mph, and Lt. Scott Trautner visually estimated his speed at 150 mph. The biker took Minnesota 5 toward Stillwater, and troopers arrested him when he pulled his 2001 Suzuki 750cc into the Oak Park Heights City Hall parking lot. "He was pretty upset with himself," Trautner said Wednesday. "He made some comments about how stupid he was. He was pretty remorseful about the whole thing." Trautner and State Patrol officials say the duo's speeds were unusual, although such speeds can be difficult to track. "Sure, there are times they go 140 to 150 mph when fleeing," Trautner said, "but it's rare that you can actually clock them when they are doing that." In September, Sam Tilley, the son of a Washington County deputy, caused a storm in the motorcycle world when a Minnesota State Patrol airplane clocked him at 205 mph on a Honda RC51 near Wabasha. He was participating in the "Flood Run," a motorcycle event that raises money for charity. Skeptics said that even a drastically souped-up Honda RC51 — a 999-cubic centimeter, 126-horsepower motorcycle — could not have gone that fast. Even though Tilley pleaded guilty, the courts never did establish his exact speed. | ||

I've read reports and have had cops tell me that it is virtually impossible to visually estimate the speed of a moving vehicle. Usually meaning a car... I would assume it would be even more difficult with a motorcycle. | ||

It's like the "street value" of a drug bust. 2 grams of mari-g-wanna has a street value of $2000? I mean I've heard it costs like gold bullion, but come on. Cops are human & who want to brag about a 82 mph high speed chase? A 750 Yamaha should be able to hit 140, more or less. My old ('83) 1100 Suzuki was flat out at 145, maybe downwind 150 ( with taller than stock gearing ). A modern 750 has more ponies & less drag, so.... could be. | ||
