Well, I did the Gainesville run today. Over 320 miles in one day. I've been doing these long runs to prove to myself (and the nay sayers of my riding group) that these bikes are very reliable. It performed flawlessly. Plus, I've been trying to meet more Buellers around Florida. Met up with 2 of them in Gainesville today. Had a great time chatting and plan to head up again to ride with them. Now, I need to decide where my next destination will be next weekday I'm off.

BTW, I can verify that the saddle bags will in fact handle 130 mph.

I did 400 miles last Saturday, and it was challenging riding through mountain passes and such, and not a single problem. Never could have done it on the freaking stock seat, though (I love my Corbin..).

I do need a Corbin for my SX. The stock seat on it is the best one I've sat on, but even still, for long rides of 300+ miles, I need something better.

Oh, for all the Florida riders, I'll keep posting when I do these rides during the weekdays. Figure if someones off with nothing to do it will make for a good day.

PS: For some reason I don't want to sleep right now. It's almost 3am.
Anyways, being I just reset my GPS unit and updated it's firmware. I've been doing some searching on the net and reading stories from the pashnit.com site. Well, I was thinking. Who here has done the Iron Butt run on a Buell? I got a crazy idea to do this.

Coast to coast on 50 hours? ( CC50) I really like my XB, butt, don't think I could do that. The 1000 miler, maybe.

My Wife and I flew from Phoenix Az to El Paso Tx in Feb to buy my new '05 XB12R. We rode the first 50 miles that night (cold). And the next 430 miles the next day (COLDER) through some of the most desolate high desert in the United States. The new bike performed great and was broken in by the time I got home.

1500 miles in four days on an XB12R last summer.
It was 123 degrees in Death Valley on the return trip through. Only problem was minor & operator error anyway. Gas expands a lot more than I thought in those temps.
Quite easy to do (if you dont have the stock seat!)
I've seen posts of XB riders who have gone farther in less time.

Somebody posted about an Official Iron Butt run late last summer I think. Don't remember what bike though.

I have a friend who does the Iron Butt, don't think there are any Buells but a few guys run Harleys. I was behind an Iron Butt rider this week at a stop light (license plate frame), he was on a BMW which 90% or them ride. To start I was going to do a 1000mi in 24hr event this year but I have a conflict that day. Don't know if I could ever ride THAT much, that's some serious stamina. Last Iron Butt (2003) speed channel did a special on it, documenting the different riders at checkpoints and such. I hope they do that again, it's amazing what they go through.

About a month ago I did 600 miles on my S3 in 16 hrs. Combo superslab & twisty and we had a few stops. I was somewhat pooped by the end. My longest day on the XB12R was 500+ on the ride mentioned above. 1000/24 would be doable by me but it sure would take some work! Wow.

Hmmm, any Florida Buell riders up to an Iron Butt run sometime in the future? Let's show them what these bikes and our rears are made of.

I'm doing an Iron Butt Assoc. ride on my XB12S next weekend (1000/24). It's a charity run going on during AZ Bike Week. I've done a few 500 mile days with no problems, so I'm really looking forward to this one!

I've had the pleasure of riding with of the Iron Butt guys and they are a first class bunch of people. They simply love motorcycles and even though many ride BMW's and Goldwings they took a sincere interest in my Buell. You'll have a great time!

Do have some people asking me why I would do this when I ride a sport style bike. I tell them why not? I live in Florida. Straight road capital of the USA. Might as well make use of them.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I like long rides.
1k on an XB would be a very worthy Iron Butt award. Or would it be Monkey Butt!

On of the best investments I ever made was a English Saddle Cover made of sheepskin that I lightly modified to fit my Kawi Concours. It is great for long rides. It lets your posterior "breathe", and I will not go on long rides without it. And it is reasonably priced compared to some of the bike-specific pads.

I bought it on ebay from this vendor:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=16245&item=7146222065&rd= 1&ssPageName=WDVW

The have various sizes and you can contact them directly for the different sizes. I can see this easily fitting an XB.
