Hi, I just got my new XB9SX last week and it has only 150 km on it. It's my first Buell and I wonder if everything is OK. When I put the front brake on from high speed, there's a "clunk, clunk clunk" that I can hear. The sound is only when I apply the front brake. I have checked and I can't see nothing wrong on the front. Is it a normal sound with those front brake system? Thanks, Sylvain |

your head bearings need to be readjusted per the service manual instructions. |

I have 650 miles now, Km's? The clunk seems to dissipate around 400. I figured the pads were just wearing into the rotor. Remember, this a front brake like no other. It has always worked very well. |

Thanks guys! I read a lot about front brake noise, with a search on the forum.... there's so much threads about that. I have check the head bearing and it look Ok. I'll wait a little bit to see if it will go away. It work fine but it has this annoying sound. 150 km is around 100 miles. I will see around 500 miles if it's always there, I'll get the head bearing checked. |

My XB9S has pretty much done that since I've owned it. I has about 2800 miles on it now and it still does it. I had my head bearing tightened by the HD dealership and it still does it. Does it need to be replaced? |

the front rotor is sort of a floating rotor if you look at it it moves back and forth and this is the only problem i have found with them |

When I picked up my 05 XB12R back in September, it did the same thing. The service guys loosened and retorqued the rotor bolts. They said it was fine. At the first intersection I came to there was the clink-clink-clink. I called them when I got home and the lame answer I got was ride it for a while and see what happens. Since I bought the service manual before my bike came in I started looking up everything about the front end. I decided to loosen the front caliper, just like I was going to do a pad swap. One of the caliper bolts must have had 150ft/lbs of torque on it. I had to beat on the allen wrench for three full turns before I could just use the wrench. I cleaned off the loctite, re-applied a little and put it back together. Noise has been gone ever since. I stopped back at the dealer on my next ride and shared my find with the service manager in case any more bikes come in doing the same thing. |

I felt a rapid jolt through the bars when mine had the steering head bearing problem. If it's just little clicks, that's completely normal and fairly unnecessary to retorque the bolts unless you're absolutely nutty about getting rid of that noise. Even then, it might not work as planned. |
