"supposed" to??? doubt it, supposed to use oil that meets all the requirements!! as stated many times in many many posts elsewhere on this board, don't want to get into that here, only looking for some quick going rate market data, thanks! |

I've never seen for less than $8. I don't use it anymore, I just use the 15w50 stuff. Probably not as good, but surely it couldn't be worse than the HD oil. I'd use the HD oil if I didn't have to go to a dealer to get it. |

my local Mobil distributor can get it to me for $6.09/qt by the 6 qt case. seems pretty reasonable, i originally thought they came in 12 qt/case, and was going to get them at $3.04 ea, but not so! |

Oops, forgot the mention. I buy my oil at Wal Mart. Get 6 quarts for around $20. Then the gear oil is about $4-5 at Autozone. |

FWIW, I use Mobil 20-50 V-Twin; used to get it at AutoZone, but as you know, they have opted to stop carrying it; not enough volume for them I guess. O'Reillys carrys it (central Texas area)--$7.99/qt (+ tax)} |

I was paying ~$8/quart at Autozone. $6.09/quart sounds REALLY good. Mobil-1's website has links to two on-line suppliers but one wants $9.49/quart and the other wants $11.45 IF you buy it by the 6-quart case. |

Just a thought, but Mobil-1 does not meet the API rating that Buell states in the owners manual. CF-4,CG-4,CH-4 and CI-4.Mobil-1 is only CF which is an older rating.I use Shell Rotella-T,hard to beat. |

Thepup- Shell Rotella-T synth is good stuff, relatively cheap, and widely available at Walmart. In fact, my local store just started stocking it in quarts as well as gallons. I've run it in my older Japanese bike (1983 Honda Ascot VT500FT) for the last 2 years. OTOH, I'm hesitant to run 5W-40 in my Buell where 20W-50 is recommended. Where do you live (temp range), and how long have you run it? |

40,000mi. kind of speaks for itself. I did do a top end at 38,000 (12,000mi ago) but that was more out of curiosity and wanting to tear into it. The guy that helped me asked a couple of times why I was doing it. |

Thepup- I know at least one other Bueller running the dino version. It's good stuff too. Iamike- I'm pretty well convinced I'm going to change to Mobil-1 15W-50 at my next change. By then it won't be "redcap" any more as the new improved version has a yellow cap. How did the inside of your engine look at 40k? Any photos? |

I wish I would have taken some pictures but since I was doing it at someone else's place I never thought of bringing the camera. I was pretty happy with how clean the inside was. I have seen some pics of engines with a lot of carbon build up on the pistons that can cause detonation problems. Since I almost always use a 10% ethanol gas I was hoping the combustion chamber would be fairly clean, which it was. I worried a little because when I had replaced my intake seals the previous year there was a lot of grunge in the throttle body & manifold. I did have an valve seal that was starting to leak a little though. There was hardly any grunge on the tops of the heads and rocker boxes. That was why Erik said that he put the fan on the new models was to cool down the heads right after shutdown so they wouldn't cook the oil that was sitting there. We don't typically have to sit in any traffic around here (we don't have any traffic). The only time that I had ever really sat that way was when I was caught in an accident in White Plains, NY that took about 45 minute to go 1/2mi. while it was about 90deg. I could smell the engine but it didn't hurt the Mobile 1 at all. |

Oh yeah, look in the Knowledge Vault in the lubrication section. There is a lot of discussion on oils there. |
